View Full Version : Inshore flounder in the HOT summer time?

I fish in a kayak, so I cant make offshore runs to the wrecks when the water gets hot. I fish the Va seaside, and was wondering, can flounder still be caught with regularity inshore, during July and August, when the water gets really warm? There are two inlets I can easily paddle to, so I was thinking if I get right up to them in the hot months on a flood tide, I may still be able to catch some fish. What do you all think? I have been doing really well with flounder, and am hoping to be able to catch some all summer. Thanks for any info.

Catch flounder down there July and Aug all the time but fish seem to be in inlets or close to them. Prob due to the water being cooler there.
GOODLUCK!

Hey ESyaker I used to fish for flounder at Wachapreque Inlet out of a boat some years back and fished the summer month when it was hott and always caught em.
Now I fish out of a kayak too but haven't been to ES yet.
Maybe someday.

Fish the deepest water at the peak of the high tide or just on either side of it. That will be the coolest water and the best you can hope for.

You'll want to try deeper water where it's coolest. They are around all summer, but they don't like that hot water in the shallows. I'd try the channel in the inlet on the incoming while the cooler ocean water is moving in.

Last year we had good fishing thru Aug., we did fish closer to the inlet. We caught fish at all tides, you had to move around and fish where the current was moving. We caught fish from 4' to 30' as long as you had moving water.
