View Full Version : Question NC crabbing regs
I'm vacationing with family at topsail island NC in a couple weeks and can't get mutch info. on NC crabbing regs. Best I can tell I need a NC inshore fishing licence, and if I trotline, it can only be 100' for rec. crabbers:eek2:
Have any of you crabed down there? Will it be worth hauling the gear down there? Any info is greatly appriciated.

try this
www.ncfisheries.net/recreational/recguide.htm
One other thing, crabs are a lot cheaper down there as they don't sort them. Better I believe to spend your time on other things like flounder and reds. Gulp shrimp w'1/4 oz red jigheads in newpenny. Right up around the docks and pilings just like worm fishing for bass

BTW the license(Required) is$30 for everything, and good from the date of issue til the 1st anniversy date. or was last year. I don't know if they raised the rate this year. Any bait shop can help you with that. If you decide to crab go back into the marshes. You'll only catch sooks and triagles in the inlets or off the piers. Try to get on the backside of the ICW. Strong outgoing is best when the jimmys are coming out of the grass. My avetar pic is from the ICW and that's not the only one I have so guess what I spend my vacation doing!
