Female crabs

I crabbed the Patapsco river and caught over 2 BUSHELS of females before I caught my bushel of males Sunday morning, quite ironic that the 3 commercials crabing next to me can keep them all and me nothing !

I felt I should of just kept them and drove over to there boat and just handed them to them.

Also, I could of just went over and bought the same crabs I just throwed back and arrive at the ramp with a reciept.

If you are a Marylander, you should realize that the future of the crab population depends greatly on female crabs being in the water and not a basket. You should be lobbying against commercial crabbers taking females and not complaining that you can not keep them. That is a TRUE Marylander. These new crab laws for recs are bringing the crab population up...........Gary

The new laws are not only for recs, but are for comms too. It depends on the license type. LCC holders are allowed to keep a max of 2 bushels a day until September. So far, I have not kept more than 2 bushel total for the year - so don't try to bust my chops. I do follow the laws set before me. However; if I find myself in a ton of sooks - the law does state that I'm allowed to keep 2 bushel. If the price is decent for sooks, then I will catch and sell my two bushels.

As far as being a cash loving individual. I thought I lived in the USA where working hard to get ahead was a good thing. I found that I enjoyed crabbing and decided to lay out several thousand to invest in my very own crab business. Now in the summer, I work 7 days a week (crabbing on weekends) to try to make a good live for my family. I'm not a corporate leader who is shipping american jobs over seas just so I can put more money in my pocket. I'm out there busting my butt, putting in extra time, working for myself to make my life better. I was always told growing up, that this was an honerable thing to do. Was I mis-informed?

it all depends where you crab. as far as rec crabbers the dnr could have burned a guy for setting his line early but he let him go. the laws aren't stricked enough IMO. he should have either ticketed him or pick his line out of the water.they were an hour earlier then they were supposed to be. good luck to you fish 1

I only keep what females I have orders for. I have 2 usual customers that love them. Even then it's only by order and they are monsters. Believe me not all Comms take what they are allowed. We do what weneed to make ends meet. BTW what do you do for a living?

Rob, I can care less about rockfish, you know I bass fish,Commercials are responsible for there crabbing future and keeping females is not real responsible, I don't care what the law says.,

I'm not bit_ _ ing about me keeping females my stake is we should be all on the same page or we get a new book........

Funny thing here, I rant and I have mostly commercials repond, go figure.

catch just to fill a basket or atleast try to have them through the light ones away see how they make out. and by the way if
you want to catch less females move to shallower water just a little hint. you are a contractor how would like it if some took
your contr. license from you like they are trying to do to some of the comm guys. you make a living as a contractor they make
a living on the water go figure

I worked commercial in the 80's, and have crabbed all my life, my brother is trying his hardest to make a living catching them... The laws are based mostly on sound science, so if you are opperating within the law, do what you want !!!
