Over the last few weeks I have been experimenting with the Razor clams. To be fair I would bait different parts of the same line with different clams. I used, Fresh dead, dead then frozen, frozen alive, and alive.

Bottom line is this. At first they all catch equaly. No differance at all. once they soak for a while 1 hour of crabbing the dead frozen and the frozen alive start to dropp off due to the crabs pulling all the clam meat out of the bag. I had several crabs with a face full of clam as we dipped them. Next is the dead clams in about 1.5 to 2 hours. they give up the ghost. Last is the alive clams, many can be ready for another day crabbing.

So there you have it guys. Buy some fresh or go home early.:yes:

my vote says the live clams will be dead by the time you try to use them again so what's the point in keeping them

Not true at all. If you run your line often many of the clams can last a few trips. I got 4 bushels in two days off a 600ft line with 1.5 - 2 hours crabbing each day.

It all depends on how many small crabs and rays are around. Sometimes you just wind up with a bag of shells...........Gary
