Does anyone know the present condition of Stump Pass? When I was down in early spring, there was a serious south hook to get out and the markers (buoys - the day marks were in 2 feet) had been pulled. Also the gulf bar was at about 3.5 feet. Six inches more sand, and I would be bumping. I know there were plans to start dredging, but I also know that takes a while to get approved and started. Plan to be there the first week in August and wondering it Stump is usable with a 3 foot draft.

I would also like to know the current depth (if you know the right path) out of the Placeida state ramp. Not too bad a run to B Grande if Stump is not usable.

Thanks,
Woody

Hi Captn,

Thanks for the article. It was interesting and rather depressing. Stump really needs a jetty, but if you can't even get a dredge permit, good luck! That would help the disappearing state park beach just north as well...

Sounds like my best bet is to not get in a rush and follow out someone who draws as much as I do, then save the track for the time I will be there. While I was there in the spring, they pulled the red buoys and I am assuming they are still gone. Had to "return red on left" (or really hug them) anyway.

Currently, sitting in the motel room in Hatteras, NC. Middle of the week, everyone was limiting-out on bailer mahi with some gaffers mixed in. Got out yesterday, but the bite had moved on - only one barracuda (the fishing is always great the day before ;). A low moved in and stalled right on top of us. Had to quit early and beat back from the 'stream through heavy rain and very short period 4 footers. Although the tight little low is gone the forecast for today is worse - 20+ kt wind and 6-8 footers with a 5-6 second period. ...Thus, I'm at the motel. Pamlico Sound is just as bad (worse?) than Lemon Bay for skinny water and I don't have "local knowledge". That coupled with a choppy bay and deep vee kind of dampen bay fishing too.

Maybe next time!

I hear ya. On the good side that is fishing, I heard some boats were finding Sails & Tuna as close as 20 miles off the beach due to the oil slick offshore, cant prove or disprove though.
