I have a 20' Grady White and want to do a little crabbing, but the creek (St Jerome's) where I keep my boat is shallow except for the channel leading out to the bay.

I don't want to set up a trot line. I thought I would get some open top traps and anchor and try chicken necking with string from the boat.

Any suggestions?

Sounds like a good plan.

Lay your traps in various depths to find out where the crabs are. Then concentrate on placing them in the depth that's most productive.
Use fresh bait.
Good luck!

it might be hard to grab the bouys from your boat.
how high are the gunnels on the side of the boat?

you might be able to grab them with a boat hook.
but you want to jerk the rope up quick, so that the crabs don't get out

Propstick made from 1 1/4 Pvc, set in rear rod holder, set just above waterline. Rig up trot line, and have fun.
