Anybody ever heard of/owned/shot a Stoeger over and under. Dicks sporting goods has a 20ga over and under for $299 and I was wondering if the gun was junk or simply a more affordable decent firearm. Thanks for any input you may have! I have always wanted a 20ga over under but didnt want to fork out the big bucks they often cost.

...I have 2 friends that own them and each of them love em. No problems what so ever. Only issue was tightness when they first bought them. They seemed to be very tight. Enjoy, good luck!!![smile]

my dad has the new Stoeger M2000 auto that is supposed to be built just like a Benelli. He paid $379 for it versus 900+ for a benelli.

So far he absolutely loves it and it hasnt stopped shooting yet. I think it's a pretty well built. I think stoeger makes pretty good guns and for the price i dont think you can go wrong.

Good Luck!!!

My old man has a Stoeger 12 guage over/under. He paid 299 for it. At first I wasn't sure if it was a good gun or just a "cheap" gun. Its a great gun. If fact I will probally buy one this summer.

Their downfall is that they have brass in between the barrells and over time the barrells will "wander".

And why would the barrels wonder for having brass between them.

Even if they did "wonder" a little bit. I would'nt think I would be that big a deal for birdshot. If you were tryin to shoot a pumpkin ball 100 yards you might notice. I'm assuming the brass might warp???

Stoeger O/U's are ok for hunting. Don't expect to shoot Sporting Clays every week and have it hold up. Stay away from the Stoeger Side by Sides, they are junk. CZ makes a very nice Side by Side that actually works and is good looking. The Stoeger 2000 is an excellent gun as is the Franchi Inertia Driven model I-12. Beretta owns Stoeger, Franchi, Benelli, Sako, Tikka, and who knows else.

I've got the Condor 12ga O/U, several friends also have them, one of my friends actually bought four of them for his sons, the combo is a great deal, you get the 12 and 20ga barrels that fit the same stock. All of us have had misfires, all of us keep our guns clean, tried several brands of ammo and still a few misfires. We've all come to realize that when we slam them shut they never misfire, when we close them softly they misfire.... I love mine, all of my friends love theirs but we're not sure how long they will hold up... Granted we do not slam them with force but we are not gentle with them. I shoot sporting clays with mine and have for about a year

I bought the m2000 back in December. Love it! Have shot several thousand rounds through it. Several great dove hunts and one awsome quail hunt, and killed a few ducks. Never, missed a beat. No jams and shoots great. Buddy has the bennelli, 1500 bucks. Shoots as good. Great camo pattern. Looking forward to next year. It handles well on the skeet and trap range too. I might get another for the kid. Did I mention I love it?

I hate to be the odd man out but I had a 12ga OU that gave me nothing but problems. The one firing pin was too short and didn't always fire the top barrel. After about 50 shots I noticed the stock was splitting. I checked it and it was tight, just a bad piece of wood I guess. After that I sold it.

Yep, the movement is due to the fact that there is nothing separating those barrells except for brass. It is soft and will mush around in there if you fire enough shells through it.

Also, as has been noted general manufacturing fit & finish is not the greatest.

I know personally that it's a little bit imposing to try to spend the extra $ but you could really end up with a gun that will last your whole life if you do.

I bought a brand new Verona O/U in 20 gauge and I love it....it cost under $600 at Dick's. Other guns that are really good and are in the same price range (or maybe a little higher) are CZ, DeHaan (www.dhshotguns.com), and those others that have been mentioned. Actually I beleive CZ & DeHaan are all the same guns with just minor differences.

The downfall of getting a DeHaan is that it's hard to find a used one. You have to order them through a gun dealer...and I preferred not to buy a gun before I can heft it a bit..

Good luck!
