As a recreational boat license holder, I was checking out the regs as I plan to do some crabbing. After reading through quite a number of references, I could not see it said that crab pots (The big square ones commercial guys use) are illegal, although when listing what you can use, thes crab pots were not listed. I'm a bit confused. It seems that they are illegal to use recreationally from a boat. Correct? I figured you guys would know... for sure...:help:

You need a commercial license to use a crab pot in the bay. Not legal in the rivers for any one unless you own waterfront property and you can have two from your pier. You are permitted to use 30 traps and 1200 feet of trotline as a rec. There is a crabbers forum on TF.........Gary

IF you lived in Virginia then you could set out two pots per person on the vessel and keep up to one bushel of hard crabs or 24 peeler crabs.

Alternately you could purchase a 5 pot recreational license and set out five pots per person and if there was another licensed crabber on the boat each of you could keep 1 Bu of crabs.
