Met my brother up on one of the farms we own to go turkey hunting. We walked to an area to listen expecting to hear at least one gobbler maybe two. However these didnt gobble until we were set up on another bird. To paint the picture we are set up in about a 300 yard wide cut over, with a drainage ditch running through the middle scatter with trees. Behind us is a field and infront is about 20 year pines. I get to calling with my brother set up between me and the bird, he is in the ditch about 30 yards from me. Ole tom flies off the roost to within 60 yards or so of Neil. He stays here for about 45 minutes strutting, spitting and gobbling, just out of range, I was getting frustrated watching this happen and him not coming in, even considering the fact that a hen that was with him came right by us with 10 yards of both of us. During this whole time another gobbler is coming in from the same direction, he eventually gets into the cut over headed right for me. The bigger bird follows in chasing him to within range. First bird crosses ditch, Neil passes figuring to wait for the second giving me a chance to shot. Big boy steps in his firing lane, pulls the trigger, knocking him down, 20lbs 10" beard with 1" spurs, first bird flies in my direction about 40 yards away, pull the trigger and fold him up, 18lbs 9" beard 3/4" spurs. This morning the birds were on fire, we heard about 8 birds within a mile radius. BTW the came across a nest today with about 8 eggs in it.
