I've had a lot of great crabbing trips over the years, but yesterday was probably the worst. Being from up here in Fredneck Co it's always a haul to wherever we're crabbing and we've often been in hellacious traffic, but luckily other than a blown trailer tire we've always made it through.

So, yesterday morning i'm sitting @ work and my buddy Scott sends me a text that said- take off work early and lets go crabbing. An hour later I was headed out the door. Got home, changed, got the line out of the freezer and we headed down the road, destination Broomes island. I asked him as we were leaving whether he wanted to go the longer safer route down 70 or take our chances with the faster, but much crazier 495. So, we crawl around the beltway checking out all of the "crazies" while the temp is reading a steady 102. Finally make it to rt 4, make it through the first light and headed for the 2nd 1 when some idiot pretty much comes to a stop in front of us pinning us in. Have no clue why this lady was stopped or what she was doing, but the next thing we hear are the brakes squealing and then, BAM! Hit us dead square in the back of the boat and knew when we got out that it couldn't have been good. Nope, broke the motor off at the transom and it was hanging by 1 little metal strap. doh Called for a cop to make sure all of the paperwork was done right and threw the motor in the back of the boat and crawled trough traffic on the way home again.

Could have always been worse, but just wanted to share and vent a little. I hope it's not a hassle for my buddy to get things fixed up and back in the water, but i'm sure you all know how it can go with insurance companies. Be safe out there everyone! Jamie

Jamie, Sorry to hear about your accident but glad you were not hurt. You know where I live and ALWAYS take Rt. 70 to 29 S to 100 to 665 and then Rt 2. I used to take Rt. 32 but don't like the two way traffic. Any way you look at it there is a lot of things that can go wrong between where we live and the crabs. It doesn't matter what time of day it is either, traffic, traffic, traffic. If I am going down that way to crab, I try and leave at 3:30 AM. Hope you get a nice new motor out of it and the transom is OK..................Gary

That really stinks,

Not only your motor and transom, but what about the hitch and connectors to your truck, or even the truck itself?

Hope everything turns out for you.

Check the frame where your hitch is. My accident a couple months ago cracked the frame on both sides and state farm totaled it.

Man , that sucks.
Second the advice to get entire boat checked - as well as your truck. Never know what got damaged from that hard a hit.

You can always look at it like someone was keeping you off the water that day. You never know... The man up stairs works in mysterious ways! Just wish he woulda spared the motor :-( Glad your alright.
