I am trying to convert some TDs numbers to Lat/Lon in my Garmin GPSMap and Garmin they tells me that I need the Loran Chain Number and two secondary towers etc. Most of these TDs numbers are just North and South of Hatteras if that is any help. I have never done it before and have no clue where or who can provide the numbers I need. Thanks for your help!

Most garmins now have a td setting so you just set it to TD then get your mark on lat/lon then change it over thats how i do it on my machine

What the Garmin people are saying is that I need to know the Loran Chain Number and two secondary towers used to record the position I wish to covert.

Sad to say, if you were to search the internet for loran conversions you'd read that they are simply not accurate enough to put you over any previously recorded Loran TD locations. I tested this with known markers, such as buoys and inlets, and the conversions were too far off to be trusted. I gave up on trying to convert all of my old Loran fishing spots. And, of course, there was no reason to convert known markers, because they're already displayed on GPS charts. If you find the answer you're looking for, and it's accurate enough to be worth the effort, please share it with the rest of us ex-Loran users!

give it the 9960 chain you should be good. After that take a long day with nothing to do and run to it on the loran mode and start your search it is a pain and sometimes it is not relable really when your looking for little wrecks like planes and stiff but give her a shot.
