See these half-size crab pots. Any reason why they would be inferior to the full size traps?

A crab trap is 12" X 12" so if you are talking about 6" X 6", that would be too small. If you are referring to a 12 X 12 box trap only 6" high, that would not be a problem. I use all topless traps so the height is a non issue. You have the words Pot and trap in the post..........Gary
Was the max size increased? A Capt told me today some crazy size like 15x20 or something like that for a trap not a pot but a trap is legal? He also said he uses 5 necks or baits in one trap.
I know all you guys here will know. Meantime I will go to md DNR and come back.
OK I am back, its true, max size is 20x15 for traps triangle or rectangle. Now I have to find some! Anybody know who sells them?

15" X 20" is the max for a trap and 30" is max for a ring........Gary

We have been all through this before . My advice is to see if you can borrow 1 or 2 15 x20 's before you buy them and try them against the 12 x 12 . That's a lot of resistance to pull up plus the room they take up . 2 crabs fit fine in a 12 x 12 as will 2 baits . Most have stated there not worth the trouble and expense . As for resistance pulling up ,as an example, someone gave me a 12 x 12 with vynyl coated doors .The water resistance against that thicker gauge makes a big difference . Everytime we pull that trap you would swear there was a Jimmy in it even though it's empty . Pulling traps for 4 hours is work . Why make it harder on yourself .
Just my opinion. Sometimes bigger or to many traps can be overkill
If your just starting to crab try 20 - 12x12 's to start and you'll do fine .

I agree on the big traps are not worth it. Pulling traps is a back breaker..........you don't need a sledge hammer to drive a tack!............Gary
We tried 1 15x20 on Friday..Wow how much harder it was and space it took up and only 1 time we got 2 keepers. Will stick with the smaller ones.
