The 1985 75hp (4 cylinder) with working power tim was serviced just last month. Had the carbs rebuilt, lower unit oil changed and new impeller installed, the engine runs well on a hose, but once in the water it will not take a load when put in gear. I had the compression checked and the results are 250lbs #1, 215lbs #2, 215lbs #3 and 205lbs #4. So I was told it would cost 3K to rebuild so I decided to purchase a new honda 75 4 stroke from Cutter Marine in Essex, MD. The motor also has a good prop on it. This motor has been my baby for 25 years, so what is stated above is the truth. I have the reciepts for the recent work done to it and you can contact the shop that serviced it.
The 1983-84 70 merc (3 cylinder) Ran back when it was put in the shed (5 years ago) the motor turns over freely and the starter works well (I did not try to start it)
I have one set of controls and two sets of cables, although one cable is rusted thru. I also have one home made outboard motor stand on wheels that I stored the 70 on in the shed that will come with them. This package is a steal if you can rebuild an outboard or for parts if you have the need for them. Both motors are complete!
