Hey guys, moved to EC recently, and I'm looking for some fishing tips for the area. I haven't ever done much freshwater fishing. What do you go for around here and what are some decent spots to try out. I have a 15 foot flat bottom jon boat.

Moved from Lake Waccamaw to Elizabeth City for the fishing. Worked out of Wilmington.
Hurford will be your best bet with that boat. Do you have a motor or electric motor.
Right under the swing bridge in Hurfort is a good crappie hole. You have to have a fish finder around here..
Just to the left after you go under the bridge is a good bass spot.
Behind the bridge headed back down river is brim, striper, and catfish. If you have a trailer and a motor your set. Electric motor your limited but no motor your going have to stick near the landings.
Landing in Hurford is behind police station. April and may around here are the best brim fishing you can ask for.
White perch are everwhere,,, Just have to find them.

Welcome to Eliz. City! If you leave from water front park head straight out the river towards the Coast Guard Base, as soon as you get has the last house on the left start fishing on the left side of the river. The first point is Hospital Point, fairly deep and very stumpy a long ways off shore so be careful. Follow the shore line all the way around until it gets shallow, the point is shallow but then drops off again. The next point is Dukes Swamp, very deep and very very very stumpy. White perch, red fin perch, bass, bream, puppy drum, flounder, black drum just about everything there. If you go towards the bridge, once past the bridge the right side is fair and once you are past the condo's the right side is OK too. There are a few top secret honey holes but the above mentioned places will not get me killed by the locals.

Thanks alot guys. Yeah my boat does have an old 2 stroke 25 horse johnson. I actually took it out this past Saturday, up river under the draw bridge and right past what looked like the water treatment plant. I caught a bass on the first cast, on the far side of the river from the plant. then had problems.....couldnt get the motor to start. had just got the thing out of the shop last week and it ran great all day until i shut it down and tried to start it back up, Turns out it may be the power pack died on me. Any of you guys know how much this part will probably run me?

Also, I didnt know Black Drum would be in the river? Is the water brackish at all here?

Summer time its very brackish, that was the waste water treatment plant, lots and lots of old pylons run parallel to the shore and a good ways off the shore, also a discharge pipe coming from the plant. We have caught rock and white perch around there.

My daughter her boyfriend and I went out this afternoon after work, fished around the mouth of Knobbs Creek. We caught 5 white perch and 1 red fin plus a few short hits, all on beetle spins. My daughter hooked what was probably a gar that broke the line. Perch were pretty good size. Didn't set the world on fire but it was nice just getting out for an hour or so.
