Alright,
I'm taking a walk right after the storm that dropped bunch of trees on my neighbors houses and cars along the river with my son. He yells fish, which is a big deal cause he is two. I look out and see flashes, boils and "rolling" fish. Never seen anything like it in the shallows. Few fish roll right by me and they are medium sized, but I think to myself, those really look like baby Tarpon. I have caught them, seen them fishing and in the water surfing on the Pacific. They seemed to have that extended dorsal like a Tarpon. The only thing I can think them being is something like a big Shad, Porgy or crazy Tarpon. Any ideas? Saw they were catching Tarpon in VA now.

Could be Mud Shad or Hickories. That said, I KNOW that I hooked a mid-20s Tarpon in Meridith Creek several years ago, but I lost all credibility with that claim. I hope you have better luck.crazyloco

Decided to try my luck last night after the Tarpon spotting and caught about two dozen fish including W Perch, Pumpkinseed Sunfish and a rockfish. They were biting like crazy and the perch were average sized. All caught on small bass assasins.

I'd believe a tarpon, but a weakie?! Next you'll tell me that Meredith is flanked by two tricky shoals or some such nonesense.

If I could catch anything with some size, it would be great. That is my one complaint with the river. Almost everything I catch is a juvenile fish or panfish. Biggest fish I have caught since living on the river was a Pickeral.

only one of the shoals is tricky. And there weren't any big pickeral in there in January 2007.....

I may or may not know I guy that has his boat in someone's old slip that has found those shoals on a regular basis. HAHAHA. Jeeze I remember that tarpon story like it was yesterday :) Good stuff.

Wait till fall, and fish around structure near round bay...just like fishing for largemouth. That should get you something bigger than pickerel...! (c:
