Has anyone build one of the new MHX rods that Mudhole has?? I just order one for a customer and I’m looking forward to building it for him and he order the 8” XH. Not sure how good these rods are but they look OK with their specs.

Have not tried the MHX blanks yet. Did purchase 6 of the Gator blanks rated 80 lbs. with a fast tip. Tried to find them already made up but could not find them. Just finished the last one. Handles real nice. My first on making custom rods. Turned out real pretty. Have not hooked a fish on them but did take them out to my truck and hooked up to it. Nice and smooth action for a heavy rod. Built to fish for Black Drum. They have a soft bite which is hard to see. Let me know how the MHX works out.

I finished the MHX rod and man did it come out nice. My customer wanted a split grip and I will have to say it looks neat. When he picked it up I think I seen a tear in his eye. He is going to use it for Musky and with the Extra Heavy action on this rod he should not have any problems. He has caught Musky this year up to 45” and you should see the baits this guy is throwing, I think they are about 12” long and weight about 4oz.

I have built many of those gator rods and they are one tough rod, glad that yours came out nice..

I've built 7-8 rods on the MHX blanks. Very, very similar to the old Loomis IMX blanks.

I built a MB 783 for myself last fall when playing around with LTJ configurations. Put a split grip on it with a carbon fiber insert and wrapped it Concept w/micro running guides.

I hooked into a big ray a couple of weeks ago with it. Fought it to a stalemate at the back of the boat. Pretty impressive for a blank that weighs 2 oz. I have the same configuration built on a North Fork Composites blank. The NFC blank is a little lighter, a little crisper than the MHX, but for 4 times the price, it better be.

Been very impressd with them so far. Building an MHX 4-piece 8 weight fly rod for a customer so we'll see how she ends up. REC reel seat, custom cork, AT Titan strippers and REC single foot snakes to finish it off. Tough to find a better value right now than the MHX. Funny on the IMX comment as I totally agree. Spoke with Gary Loomis last year at the ICRBE and he mentioned that he gets more requests for bringing that rod blank design back. Good stick for sure.
