I am pulling my 17' skiff to Nags Head in early August and plan to fish the sound and OI for specs, pups, blues, flounder, etc. I would be grateful for an update on the current status of the fishing there. Many thanks.

Fished OI on Monday, Tuesday and Wed of this week. Blues are very plentiful both in the bay and near shore. They are on the small side, but lots of actions when you run into em. Been catching them by trolling small clark spoons. Flounder has also been active, but most are under the size limit - been catching them with squid and small minnows. Croker and Spot can be found around the piers and pilings of the inlet bridge and have been biting on shrimp and bloodworms. Weather has been good the last week and offshore fishing has picked up quite a bit. Folks have been catching Mahi and tuna. Went out to the C tower and saw some really big amberjack, but couldn't buy a bit. They were there, but seemed to be suffering from lockjaw. If you make the run out to the tower, make sure you have the right bait which (at least in my mind) would be spot or small croker. All in all, been having a very good week while on vacation down here at Nags Head. Whale Bone Tackle has been very helpful with lots of good tips - Shawn is a very plesant kid to talk to - recommend you check in there to see what the latest is. Will also be fishing the next couple of days and will provide another update.

Good luck and hope you have a very good week.

Tight lines to all!! - John
