Been out on the surf at 3rs last two days. Fished 6 rods. 3 with regular size top and bottom floated surf fishing rigs, and 3 with the smallest hooks I could get for the spot and small croakers. Caught a couple smaller flounder, blues, and dogfish with the regular rigs I use. But couldn't hook anything on the smaller hooks, and they were taking the bait off as soon as it hit the water. I went threw 3 dozen mullet and a pack of fishbites without hooking a fish. It wasn't crabs eating the bait, I was def. getting hits, but couldn't hook em. I was cutting the mullet into 1/2 inch pieces and treading it on the hook, that was about a 1/4 inch, and they still kept taking the bait. I tried moving too a medium size hook still with no luck. Some of the hits were nice too, rod bouncing pretty hard. Need some help.doh

Kingfish, you need a really small hook for them, they can be tough to hook.

Try sending out a bait rig tipped with small pices of whatever they are bitting. At least you will see what it is taking your bait.
