Hey guys and or gals , was fortunate enough to get a pup from Tubby's 2nd litter - was wondering how your dogs are coming along ? My old Lab is 14 1/2 and just about gone . I am looking forward to hunting w/ my new dog this year , she seems to show a lot of promise and I' m gonna give her a go on some early goose. She was the runt and is a little on the smaller size around 53 # but has a lot of spunk . Any feedback is appreciated.

Rick thanks for your generosity . I am sorry for what you went thru with Hunter & hope the new dog has helped your boys get over the loss. Good Huntin'

My pup is Jo-Jo. He was the largest black male of that litter. I've had alot of dogs in my lifetime and he is hands up the smartest and most loveable. He will not leave my side for anything. The only thing he does not do is sleep with me and that's because I wont let him. I have never had a dog that attached to me. He is my buddy. He is almost done eating the house I hope. He prefers wood and plastic over dogfood. If I knew how to post pictures I would. I drove 5 hours to get him. My truck broke down before crossing the bay bridge. I called Tubby and told him that I wouldn't be able to get a pup. Somehow the garage got my truck patched up in 2 hours. I called Tubby back up and said I'm on my way again. Special thanks to Tubby and his family for finding me such a great friend!

We got Beau. He's was the second biggest chocolate male with the white patch on his chest. Incredibly smart dog will retrieve bumpers until he drops. He's a beast, about 100 lbs and all muscle. Definitely more like a Chesapeake than a lab.The cat hates him, but that's because he looks at her like a chew toy. Hopefully first day of dove season will be cool enough that I can take him.

I just weighted Jo-Jo and he is 78lbs. I remember how big those brown pup were. They looked like giants and both of them tried to bite my pant legs off. I had to have my chessie but to sleep about 6 weeks ago. She was 12 years old. That was one of the main reasons I got my pup. The funny thing is that when I look at Jo-Jo I see my chessie in his eyes. It's like I didn't lose my dog it just changed colors.

We got Copper. He is another brown one with some white patches on his feet, weighs about 75 lbs, looks a lot like Bonnie. We could not be happier. He is great with my kids, other dogs, and super smart. He loves the water and I think he is going to be a good hunter. i started him on pigeons when he was young and have worked with him a lot this summer. He also loves to go fishing. He has the best disposition, doesn't go crazy when your catching fish, sits until he is told to fetch, lets kids pull and tug on him. He also loves plastic and paper and shoes, but is kennel trained so have not had many problems. Two funny things about him. THUNDERSTORMS, if he senses one coming he will hide in my pantry. He can go outside and put his nose in the air and if he senses it he runs right in the house. Luckily gunfire does not bother him. He also is scared of SMOKE. If you have a campfire burning in the backyard and he goes outside and smell it he runs right in the house. I want to thank Tubby again for blessing us all with these wonderful dogs. One more funny thing everyone should try with your dog, i call it the emergency call. I remember one time when we were visiting Copper and all those puppies were running around like crazy, Rick's wife said watch this, and said PUPPIIIEEES a couple times in a soft voice everyone of those pups came running right to her, feeding time. To this day if I say that Copper swings his head and is on a dead sprint to me. Try it, I'd like to know if it works. I will put up a picture if I can figure it out. Copper is in the coastal fisherman with some flounder we caught this summer, July 28th edition, coastal-fisherman.com. Great to hear everyone's pups are doing so well, looking forward to reading more about them.

Beau does the same thing with smoke, but thunderstorms don't seem to bother him. I'm going to try him first day of dove season this saturday, it should be cool enough. The "Puppies" thing is interesting, I'll have to try that.

Guys I just saw this thread. I am glad that you are so happy with the dogs. I have Drake. He was the largest brown male of the second litter. He maxed out about 90 lbs right now. He looks just like his dad. Unfortuantely we lost the dad last winter after he almost battled back after surgery. I am really glad his line lives on in lots of great dogs... Hunt em and fish em that is all that this blood line from both sides is used to do. Best to all!!!

He is good looking! All the pups really have alot in common. I will say that my Jo-Jo is not mean or cross in any way. He just wants to play. It sure makes it alot easier to handle him.

So I got Scout out for some early goose this evening, a little slow but did get 1 bird just before quittin' time. Not a bad retrieve considering its her first hunt. Had only done practice with a couple of frozen dux so she seemed a little wowed with the size of a goose . Funny thing happened while we were picking up the dekes, I'm in the water beside my canoe which my buddy was siiting in the front of all of a sudden he says what was that and then something is flipping in the boat- turns out an 11 inch smallmouth got spooked and jumped up and hit him in the head and lands on the deck!:eek2:

This is Coal. Chews like crazy. If he sees me grab one of the kids he grabs me. We love him.

Beau did pretty well on the first day of dove. Took him a little bit to get the concept and he wasn't too sure what to do with the first couple he came across that were still alive, but then he did really well, like the light went off in his head. For the first day, I couldn't have asked for anything better.

Took Copper out for woodies on saturday and he did well. Got 2, he retrieved them both. The second one was a complete blind but he has a great nose and found it, I didn't even know where it was. Thanks again Tubby, family and I love this dog.

This was Copper's second hunt. The one was a cripple that went way up in the marsh, but he found it! :clapping2: He has a great nose! Can't wait for the next season to start.

I'm Jimmy (from Virginia Beach) and got the last black gyp from the first litter. She's great. I've got some great pictures of her in the snow from last week, but haven't had a chance to upload yet. Will soon. Thanks Rick.

It's been a little while since I've posted anything. After a very "trying" year last season, Beau has finally gotten it. And it's got to be instinct, not training. I've never seen a dog that can find wounded birds underneath the water. I swear he can smell them.I don't lose wounded birds anymore. It almost (and I stress almost) makes up for his hard headedness last year.....Thanks Rick, that combination of Mom and Dad has really produced an incredible dog.

Nothing better for a wounded black duck then a scuba diving lab!

Glad to hear they are doing well. I have had quite a few folks trying to get that combo again. Unfortunately, as most of you guys know I don't have the dad any longer. Drake, has turned out great. He will not leave the boys sides he loves to fish and hunt. Happy Holidays to everyone and good hunting. They all ahve great noses. The father helped me find a monster buck the bow season before he died. There are some good genes in those pups.
