Return to crabbing....ran my first 1000' trotline in 20 years with my 2 young sons last weekend with great success .

Now my question is it going to be worth crabbing this weekend or are all of them going to be light due to the full moon and them molting....not that the boys are going to let me not go but, just was wondering.

Go and enjoy the day
lunar phases have nothing to do with a crabs molting cycle. lunar phases are fixed at 29 days, a crabs molting cycle is variable , anywhere from 10 to 30 days, depending on its size,..

enjoy the time spent with the kids.. my son loves to crab. we took my 9 yo daughter out last weekend and she impressed all of us with her ability to scoop... she said she's ready to move up to a pretty wood handle net like everyone else uses :) needless to say she now has a nice shiny net with a wooden handle to break in....

That's funny my boys both asked for their own net and crab gloves....that kinda stuff just makes you feel good as a parent.

Full moon is key for big crabs and moulting. Definitely go!

This is a big molt; last of the year for many crabs. The jimmies are in prime condition to attract and fight for the females. Females usually molt first with males in the end of the shedding cycle. Should ne a good time to catch the males.
