October in OC ???

I know this maybe a little early, but I think we are going to try fishing in October in Ocean City. Can someone tell me what we can expect since it’s been about 20 years since I fished in October down there? Now just remember I will be taking my Skiff so no ocean fishing unless the water is decent. We were thinking about fishing OBX but decided to fish OC instead. Any help would be appreciated.

From what the captain and mate I was out with last week told me, October may be the best month for rockfish and flounder fishing in the Inlet. I am planning on making several trips down, and hope that
flounder season is still open at that time. They said the larger fish come into the inlet from the ocean to gorge on the migrating baitfish that are leaving the bay. Maybe someone who has been down
there in the past can chime in here and give you some more information.

You got good info right there......The best is yet to come! I have taken lots of flounder over 8 lbs in the fall in the area around the inlet or just outside the inlet......Big bait is the key.

You can expect nothing Steve. I will have already caught every flounder an tog by then. Nevermind, you can catch some of those striped river carp we have down there.

Rich, I’m going to follow you around the next time I see ya… We will be down there October 14th thru the 16th and also we are coming down November 9th for the whole week. I just hope we don’t get another hurricane because we are due for some good weather.

If you think you are going to be down there on those dates please let me know, I would like find some new places to fish. We will be mainly going after tog in November but would like to catch whatever is biting in October. Lance gave me a spot a few years back for tog but we keep getting kicked out of there by the land owner.

steve... i have had a few real good trips in october out of o.c. right outside the inlet for falt stuff.
used to be the trayt and hh run was on in october, pecially the first two weeks, off of assholeteageu. about two miles south of inlet, about 2 miles off'n beach. don't know now, tho, as i have not tried this in at least 10 yuears. good luck...smoke them boys over there!!!

Well we are set and ready to go all we need now is good weather. J, don’t worry Lance won’t give me all the good spots just the ones that he has disregarded over the years. :yes:

Last year I was in OC in October--unfortunately I didn't have my boat with me. Boats were drifting the channel from 6th street down to the 50 bridge. They were drifting live spot and hooking up Stripers pretty good. I said to myself, "self" bring the boat next October.

FYI--hopefully a helpful observation--I was in OC for the day this past Saturday and I saw a lot of boats anchored up with their sterns to the bridge pilings. The guys fishing with what looked like live peanut bunker were more successful than the guys throwing plastic shads--mostly blues, with a few Stripers mixed in. The one exception that I observed were these 3 guys on a Jones Bros.--IMHO these guys really knew what they were doing. They were motoring in and out of gear from piling to piling--they really knew how to handle the boat and work the artificials--they were catching as well if not better than the live bait guys, but they were working for them.

Tog are biting now boys. Did very well on rock last week in the evening. Still some nice blues around for the smoker too.
