OMC out drive question

The guy that works with me fried his out drive last week. Its an 89 omc cobra behind a ford 351. Anyone have any idea if an OMC that was on a 6 cylinder would work? Or maybe if there was an OMC outboard whose lower unit would work. Thanks

The six cyl drive will fit but would not last very long. If I recall the 8 cyl drives were heavier and had diff. gears. I know of a dealership that use to put the 6cyl drives on 8 cyl motors most people did not know the difference.
