My brother-in-law and I do plenty of fishing in the Potomac from the "Birthday Cake" out to the "Hannibal" wreck in the bay. Typically we go for spot, croaker, flounder, blues, rock and spanish. We would like to try cobia fishing but I know nothing about it. Do the come that far north and if so where? What techniques and rigs do we use? Any info is appreciated.
P.S., Caught a croaker over 3 lbs. Sunday evening drifting squid on a bottom rig.

I have fished this area for years and have never heard of cobia there. Would appreciate a general location on the 3 lb. croaker and look forward to your future reports.

Thanks for the info on the cobia, Coan Ranger. The croaker was caught at the "Bithday Cake" a few hundred yards out from the #2 marker. Let me know of action in our neck of the woods. Happy Fishing!

I have "heard" of cobia caught at the middle grounds and I am pretty sure I hooked up with a nice one a couple of years ago there in August I think.
When I clicked up the drag on what I thought was another schoolie Rock in the chum slick, the raskal went straight away, peeling line for about 20 seconds...until a knot failed and off he went.

i haven't fished for cobia for years, but when i kept my boat at smith point we caught a lot of cobia around the target ships at tangier. we used live eels and cast them around the wrecks. lost a lot of fish on the structure, but got some nice ones.
