Kim (RodsGirl) and I pushed off the pier at 7:40 to fish the river for White Perch for the tournament. We fished numerous creeks and in Round Bay, caught lots of perch and finally found a area with a larger class of fish in *#%$* Creek. Just about every fish was above 10 1/2" and we were looking at those as small. I landed 3 nice fish for the board to increase my aggregate! dancedance

11 5/8" 40282

On the way in we trolled and casted a couple of location's for Rock, the first spot got a hard take down & ripped about 5 feet of vary tight drag before coming unglued before we got to the rod! Casting only turned up one bump. The second spot had one 16" fish before we had to troll around two other boats casting in the area. So reeled up the rods and casted the pier where the one fish was and right away I landed a sweet 22 3/4" and a 19 1/2" fish! Kim caught one 17" casting!

At Warren's Bait Shop the other day I picked up some of Maryland Tackle (Woody's) lures! And I must admit that they were the cats meow, because they out caught every other lure we were using. I caught a Sunny, Yellow Perch, White Perch and small Rock fish on them! Of the 4 I purchased the other day we lost 3 in the debris we were fishing around for the day. So I went to Warren's again today and bought 12 more, three of each color!

Rod,
I saw you guys in the Round Bay area Saturday..........................what a beautiful day it was..........Playing with some breakers last night before sunset. There is so much bait in the river right now, should be a heck of a fall bite in October.........

I tried Woody's feather spinner a couple times with decent results, but nothing spectacular. I was getting skeptical.

Then, this past Saturday evening, I cast it among some dead branches and wham, a HUGE perch. I had just finished tossing my other lures there with only small perch to show for it. My first thought was, holly smokes, I'm going to win this tourney! Of course, whenever you pat yourself on the back before landing the fish, mother nature brings you back down to earth. The fish took drag and wrapped around one of the logs. I motored up to it and tried to net it, but he managed to break the 12lb floro leader while I did that. So not only did I lose a perch of a lifetime, but I need a new feather spinner!

On the plus side, I found a new fishing cove (don't think it even has a name) that I never knew existed. It has a beautiful, very open shoreline with a very steep drop-off that is loaded with perch, and I suspect with rockfish (and later pickerel), as well. After 29 years of fishing this river, it's great to find some place completely new.

SONeill, Yes the river is full of bait and the Rock are stacked up in a couple of areas, but the bit is short and quick when they are biting. This fall is shaping up to be awesome! Can't wait for the ROCKTOBER-FEST TOURNAMENT! In a couple of the creeks we were fishing the crabs where everywhere and I counted at least 20 doubler's on the pilings! I'm going to bait the trout line here in a week or two!

Rod,
Last October the wife and i caught over 60 crabs off the pier in three hours. Kept about 25 and let at least 25 big females go. I love this time of year...........
