As many bucktails as I use, I thought it would be cool to learn to tie my own. I started ordering stuff a few weeks ago and have had it here a couple weeks. With the boat in the shop, and me being stuck in the house with the flu, I got started this weekend. This is my first dozen, their not perfect but I think they'll hold up just fine and the fish won't notice.
All are 2 1/2 oz (have 50 of them), I'll order some different sizes next time around.
Any tips or advice appreciated.

Thanks,
Would you buy the stick on eyes, or just paint some dots on them?
Another question I have is there a good cheap primer I can use? I'm dipping them all in white vinyl paint as a base and wondering if I couldn't just go to Home Depot and pickup a can of white Rust-0-leum or something as a primer.

I use powder paint , prior to tying heat jighead dip in powder- will more or less melt on contact & give a good coating if you want to you can then cure it in oven for more resilient finish. Stick on eyes are good, if you want to paint eyes on use a nail head just lightly dip in paint then touch to jighead gives good consistent size. I have also dyed my own bucktail used RIT fabric dye after salting and drying dropped them in dye bath for hour or so then air dried them only thing they dont offer a lot of colors I think I did yellow and brown ( brown makes a good smallmouth jig) also some of the guys up here at Fletchers hammer the jumbo white perch on little brown bucktails in the spring.

Hey guys, a couple of years ago, we got to making sinkers and stuff, somebody brought jig molds, well after about the 3rd case of beer, we ran outa hooks, swivels, and lead. We cast up a bunch of stuff, split everything up and I've got a pretty good selection of UNFINISHED jigs that I'de be willing to trade, say 3 to 1 or something like that for finished bucktail jigs. They are 1/2-1oz. with Mustad hooks, got a couple 24oz. fixed hook mojos 12-0 hooks also. I'll never finish them, they're collecting dust. Live in Hampton, bmail me if interested...Coley
