I've never hunted in the rain before or hunted after big rain storms and was wondering will all this rain affect the deer movement for opening day in VA this weekend?

Last year we had a tropical storm come up the coast, I sat in a tree stand for 4 hours in steady rain despite my buddy saying I was wasting my time, and I had 2 nice bucks come out into the field by my stand about 50 yards away to graze in the middle of the storm. If only it was gun season! But rain does not discourage me.

I'm going to drop a hundred pounds of acorns tonight by my stand and will be hunting Fri & Sat.

With storm coming by tonight thru tomorrow, things will be cleared out for Saturday. So I wouldn't worry about it.

Rain bothers humans. The deer do not seem to care. I have observed deer during rain and snowstorms while hunting in many states on up to Maine. I do not believe deer bed down or stay put in thick cover during a rain storm. Even heavy wind does not seem to spook them very much. Like fishing, I find them very active before and during a storm. I really have no scientific proof, but to me, the deer tend to move around a lot less immediately after the storm is over.

The Waverly hunt club is not far from you. We have great property and dog drives throughout gun season. Let me know if you are interested. Capuzzi11@gmail.com

Deer will be feeding hard after this rain lets up,Ive seen it my whole life.Acorns are dropping and corn crops have been harvested in most fields. To bad it wont start Friday morning but Saturday should be good. Our gun season opens Friday in the swamp,I dont still hunt to much until the big boys start moving and the skeeters settle but if their not moving Saturday morning I have something that will make em move!

My 2Cents, Unless it's raining hard, like a downpour hard constant (EX: the Noreaster last year) hunting is excellent when it's raining. The deer will move more in a light steady rain than they normally would. If it's a heavy downpour type rain they will move afterwards alot.

I went scouting this evening in the pouring rain ............ saw a few in the woods and about 30 in a field ..... they were crossing the road as I was traveling along .... they could care less about the rain.
