I have a hard time believing that the EPA has taken this long, Earth Day was in 1970, to finally drag kicking & screaming land abusers into compliance WITH THE Clean Water Act of 1972. Those of us who recreate in Virginia’s waters have watched for 40 years as our treasured rivers, streams, estuaries, and the Chesapeake Bay polluted to the point where foul water alerts are common place.
Our current Governor must now meet tougher EPA standards that should move the state towards meeting the Phase 3 Watershed Implementation Plans in 2017. The federal government agencies can now WIP Virginia into shape so future Virginians can enjoy our aquatic resources without fear of dangerous and life threatening infections.

I’m sure the 1500 (in 2009) remaining bay watermen (out of the 14,000 in 1993) want their way of life preserved for their children. After all, the watermen were working the bay long before the Indians were decimated which made upland farming, logging, mining, and iron production possible. Let’s get together and help the EPA to do their job and ask Governor McDonnel l to join the EPA in this most important work.
