What's the deal with trolling around 2R, the light, and the reef? Went out this a.m. with a friend who wanted to try out an OLD C-Hawk. We caught alot of breaking fish, but he started to turn green on me. Had planned on trolling but had to run back up in the river and bottom fish. I'm going to hit it again in the a.m. alone and troll. Saw lots of people out there trolling. Can someone let me know if it's worth it or give some advice? THANKS!! OPTIMYSTIC

we've been doin some trolling mostly between 2R and the light. spanish and blues have been hitting gold and silver spoons(depends on the day) behind #1 planers. the fish have been hanging in the 25-30 foot depth range.

Speed is everything--- for the macks, go atleast 6 kts and sometimes up to 7 kts-- if you start catchin blues, speed up (unless thats what your targeting)..
good luck

Thanks for the replies. Tried them this a.m. and caught 10 Spaniards between 17&23". Almost all were caught on the edge between 2R & 1R down deep with #2 planers useing pink drones. OPTIMYSTIC

Nice work, that's what I should have tried yesterday rather than running across to 42 - boy was it rough and between the wind and the tide we could not hold bottom even with 28 oz's. Cleared our sinuses on the way back.
Geat work on the spanish and thanks for the follow up report.

A little birdy told me that while he and a bunch of friends were fishing for spot at number 7 off of Sturgeon Creek in the Rapp, the spanish were taking bloodworms and fishbites. All aboard caught multiple spanish. One had a couple of doubles. None big, but they were bottom fishing, not trolling or casting.
At first they didn't know what they were but eventually figured it out.

I caught a real little one at R2 two weeks ago. Did not have spots, but otherwise was classic Spanish.
