July 29, 2005 ragged point

Got on the water around 7-30. Had one friend with me who had never caught a striper before. No Pressure. Started at the light at the tail end of the flood tide. I caught 1 14” dink in about 4 drifts. Then the water stopped all together. We switched to bottom fishing along the channel and managed tons of perch although we did not keep any. Did find two smallish spot and threw them in the live well. Changed locations and found only more perch. Water started to move again but I opted to troll. Had great success with light trolling. Eight rocks, four keepers. Often when we would go over one of my good spots both rods would go down. Went back and cleaned the fish and Tom, my friend had to get back. I worked around the house for a while until my wife called me back to f-burg. I was going to stay all day and wait for my family to come down this afternoon. She was not feeling well and needed my help with the kids. Oh well, I hope to come back down in the morning.

nope,

new engines were suppossed to arrive today. I went ahead and bought a 18' cc to get me through the summer. I bought it a couple weeks ago and have only been able to fish a couple of times. The kids are really getting into skiing.

hey, i got it. i was a little rusty. this is the boat i bought a couple of weeks ago to get me through the summer while the privateer is being repowered. i was going to resell it in the fall but i am really falling for it. Small gas bills, lots of fishing room, great for pulling the kids, and it handles the lower Potomac better than i imagined.

RosksandBlues--Saw you out there. You did better than I, who was stuck with a flyrod. Got one dink striper and two white perch--that took a fly half their size. At sunset saw lots of surface activity but could not match the hatch. Suspect everything we were throwing was too big.

Did you notice the sunset? It was unbelievable!! The sky and water were both a steel blue, as result of the overcast. It was tough to determine where one began and the other started. Wish I would have brought a better camera to get than one down.

Congrats on the Stripers.

its a Winner cc. did not know a lot about the co. before i bought but have done some research since. No stringers, a fiberglass honeycomb insteead. co is defunct. around 89-90 i think. name came from a couple of races they won??? thats what i heard. nice boat though well put together.

Beautiful weekend. i just got back and have to run to a job site but will post, now that i remember how, pics of the sunsets.

fri, like i said, we got four keepers and a dozen throwbacks. sat kids went with me and all three got to reel in 2 or 3 rocks each although the biggest was 16". sun they got even smaller. plenty of action but they were barely hitting the 12" mark. Most were healthy a couple of lesions and one on Sat that was ate up with the bad stuff. even had one eye that was clouded over. made the kids sad.

engines were supposed to be in fri but now are sched for today.
