Wouldn't that be something if the feds shut down all fishing in Virginia's coastal waters because of the General Assembly's loyalty to Omega?

There are two options
1. Shut down the regulated fishery (menhaden purse seine) that is not complying with the ASMFC mandate.
2. Shut down the regulated fishery (harvesting menhaden using any method, (a) commercial or (b) commercial/recreational )
Neither includes returing bycatch menhaden to the water dead. Neither of which includes any other species. I have no clue what would actually happen. One would hope that this information is know before the general assembly session.
One would need to research other Secretary of Commerce mandated shut downs and see if a recreational shut down effected a commercial shut down. The most recent one was in NJ on striped bass but there is no commercial fishery for stripers in NJ.

One thing's for sure. Whenever you ask the Govt. to "help", it rarely turns out how you thought it would.[smile]
