View Full Version : Flinging Eels in the Inlet
Fish n' Chips

Heading out to IRI next weekend (Sun - Tues). I've heard eels are used there. I plan on going that route as trying to build a live well for spot, etc will be too time consuming and the hours I plan to fish won't work with bait shop hours. Anyone have experience working eels in the inlet? Any tips? I'm used to them on the surf and with the currents, etc I'm curious if people are weighting them down at all or using different techniques. I plan on putting out a decent trip report to follow hopefully with some nice pics!!! Maybe it will take this week for the big boys to arrive....

We do have a charter boat for Monday afternoon, but will hit the rocks three other times (2:00 a.m. time frame due to 5:00 a.m. high tides). So, this was primarily for rocks, sorry, should have been more specific.

If your fishing from the rocks I wouldn't bother with eels. To tell you the truth I don't think their's a whole lot of rockfish in the inlet right now. Been doing good on tog though. You'll do just as good with a bucktail as you would with eels. If your going to use them though, cetain spots you would need to weigh em down to get to the fish, other spots where their is an eddy you wouldn't have to use a weight.

Thanks guys, I'll be sure to let you know how we do. Might still bring a couple eels. Something about having live bait out there that gives me goose pimples. Again, appreciate you spending the time to give me your two cents.
