There's been numerous Bull Shark sightings in the upper Bay above the Bay Bridges in Md. and even in the Gunpowder River(more well known for large mouth bass)What do you guys know about these critters?Any sightings or fish caught in your area?

Got a 3 footer about 3 summers ago around the RN2 bouy near Tangier Island. That's the only one I caught in 8 years of fishing the CB, but then again I haven't been targeting sharks.

Talkin w/ a good source over the weekend-- he had heard of a 8' hammerhead caught in the menhaden nets-- hope that shark tore the heck outta those nets [grin]

Was reeling in about a 15" rockfish in lower Potomac when there was a thud on the line that turned it into and 8" rockfish. I guess it could have been a big blue but...

A friend, last week near the targets off Tangier, saw something flopping on the surface. It turned out to be a red drum, or the majority of a red drum. A good quarter of the fish had just been bitten off the tail end of the animal. The bite radius, according to this friend, probably put the shark responsible in the category that you have mentioned, for the remainder of the drum weighed 48 lbs. I might think twice about swimming under my boat in open Bay waters checking on barnacle growth.

Anyone interested in trying to hook up with one so we can put these sightings to the test???? I am game....[excited]

I'm just a little skeptical....that drum could've been hit w/ a boat's propeller, and surely any decent blue could've halved that baby striper(!) w/ one swipe. Now, if there's a MAKO out there, let's chum 'em up!

there have always been sharks in the bay. no real secret. Be glad they don't like the taste of people.

Why wouldnt there be all kinds of Sharks in the bay...we catch them regularly down here. There is nothing stopping them from treking north. They tend to be anywhere there is food for them. Ive seen 8ftrs wallowing around in two ft surf between the sandbars. There were swimmers out farther than they were. They mostly dont bother anyone...but I dont like it none the less. Do you see Porpoise in the upper Bay?? Id say that you do. For some reason if you have one close by you dont have the other. They tend to give each other wide berth. I dont know why that is.

i did see porpoises off the Nomini. They came right by the boat while we were drifting. always a thrill for the kids. Plenty of salt in the river.

I see the porpoises cruising past Lewisetta every year. Surprisingly I have even seen them the last few years when we have had massive amounts of rain. That has been a major surprise for me. I don't normally go up as far as Nomini though, I suspect that is pretty far up river for them.

I would bet there are sharks around even in the rivers. Not positive that's what hit my fish but...next time I drift, might be tempted to throw a chunk/head on a hook for kicks!

A little off topic, but I saw a 14 ft. bull trying to eat a huge sea turtle in the Virgin Islands. Scary thing was that I had been wading a bonefish flat 200 yards away earlier that morning. I have yet to see one in the Bay.

Aren't Sea Turtles a protected species? You should have gotten the DNR to write that shark a ticket!

when i was a teenager(long time ago) i lived at coles point on the potomac. i worked on a hawlsiene rig and it was not unusual to catch sharks in the 4 to 6 foot size. don't know what kind they were, back then i didn't care. we nornally set the net off ragged point which was the favorite spot for swimming.
