Saw a doe running across the field with her tongue hanging out and a small six point in pursuit, it is on. The new moon sealed the deal.

YES! Bucks chasing all over Hanover county. Seen a lot of it in the last 3 hunting days. One freind nearby saw a fight between two. It's on alright.

If your gonna hunt, hunt now, but it's impossible to say exactly whats going on where. In hanover county yesteray, in the morning yesterday i saw 4 bucks together. Spike, 4, 6 and an 18" 8. No aggression, there were does out in the same meadow they were, 100 yards away and paid them no mind. That afternoon, I killed a 7 pointer that was tending seven does, making scrapes and chasing the does around. His neck wasn't swollen at all and his tarsal gland didn't exactly smell good, but it wasn't that incredible funk that it can be.
I think the idea of a definable rut in VA is kind of a myth...too many deer. Some bucks will be acting stupid on certain days for the next 3 weeks...might be a different set of deer acting stupid 2 days later.

I think we are still in the dreaded "October lull" in SE Virginia. I hunted all day Saturday and Monday along with a big group of other folks. The is nearly no daylight deer movement here. I am hoping it improves this week. There are scrapes to be found, so I think they are getting tuned up.

Son went to grb the mail here in stewartstown and had a nice 10 run by heading for the supermarket parking lot lmao. Dead bucks and does all over 83 for the past 2 weeks. Went to the shore on thursday and by sunday all scrapes were abandoned. Its definatly on in maryland and pa. I had to come home cause we are moving back to pasadena md. But wed nite im heading back to the shore. The temps for the next week are perfect and should be some great hunting. Good luck.

Hunted AP Hill Sat -Tues. and saw numerous bucks checked in that look like they were in just about every stage of the rut. Some were as swelled up as they could be with tarsals dripping and other looked like they haven't even thought about it. I'd definitely be in the woods as much as possible for next week or two if you can. I took a 4 1/2 year old 8 point Mon. afternoon that was with a hot doe. Not a lot of mass but he was 19 inches wide.
