my mechanic, to his credit, was determined to get me back in the water last weekend. He and a partner worked on the engines until 10-30pm fri night and then early the next morning. Tried to fire the engines up and boat had no gas!

That's funny I had 80-100 gals when i brought it there.... someone stole all that gas over the months it sat there. He is now going to fence his yard!! oh well, he goes out and gets 5 gals. starboard fires right up. Gauges good everything a-ok.

Port, click smoke! Bad starter. I run/call all over looking for new/old borrowed to no avail. So, definately not getting in the water. Mechanic has a good idea to button up- put the good starter on the other engine to make sure gauges and everything is working well.

Engine starts well but is running rough/missing. He thinks it is in limp-home mode for some reason???? He trys to reset the computer but can not. AHHHHH! Boat was moved over to another shop this week to get hooked up to the computer to find out what is wrong. Guy i bought the motors from is sending another starter. Shop with computer hopes to find time to look at it this week...

INSULT TO INJURY: so this past weekend i was going to just used the little boat again. Go to get it out of the garage and the engine will not trim up!!??? So i open the trim valve and lift the engine to get it in the water with out dragging the Skeg. Get in the water fine and lower the engine. Over all had a nice weekend with family and friends just could not trim the engine.

HOPING this week goes better and i get the big boat back!!!!

Good luck. It truly is always something when it comes to boats. Sorry about the gas loss. That is pretty big with the gas prices the way they are. I've got mine at the yard but only have about 25 gallons in her (I think).

I've heard people say the two best days of owning a boat are the day you buy it and the day you sell it. I don't know about that because I truely enjoy mine, owning it just over a year now. It is a lot of work and expense but well worth it for most folks. Keep your chin up Rocksandblues for good times are to come on the big boat and I'm sure it will be worth the wait. Good luck!

R&B, sorry to hear about your bad luck. Sounds as though you have a dedicated mechanic. Hopefully it's something simple and ya'll be on the water soon.

Rock,
Sorry to hear about all the trouble. What's the old saying? "The harder you work for something the more you will appreciate it." You really should appreciate all this when it is done. Good Luck on getting the bugs out.

sam patton in coles point. he has been good. the misfortunes, except for the missing gas, have not been his fault.

I actually meant what mechanic was it going to get the diagnostic computer hooked up. I have the same engines and I am in Coles Point and I thought it would be good to know who was close and could do that. I have been thinking about buying the software and cable myself, although I am not sure why. My installing dealer was Jetts and they are kind of a hike.

sorry...

mid-atlantic in Warsaw. computer and system to diagnose is like 5k!!! Not too far away. My mechanic called after he took the boat down and asked "did you know the brakes don't work on your trailer??" I bet it was fun with 10k lbs behind him! Ooops, but no i did not know.

I did a little research and there is a vendor on The Hull Truth that sells the YDS (Yamaha Diagnostic Software) kit for a little less than $400, plus shipping. If you want, I can forward you the email he sent to me. I think it is just a CD Rom and a cable that you can hook to any windows laptop. There might be something more that Mid-Atlantic is doing, I have no idea. I was thinking it might be worth the money just o see what my engines are doing. Again, there could more to this than I figured out in my 15 minutes of research.

yes please to the info. i was just going by what my mechanic told me. His description was for a MAC tools type set up which includes hardware and software for all the different computer controlled outboards.

what type of interface do you use between the engine and the laptop?

I will forward the email tomorrow from the office, what address should I use? I went to THT and did a search for Yamaha Software if you want to find it this evening. Hopefully this link will take you to the information.

Saw your rig at Mid Atlantic. What caused the damage to the engine cowls? Hope you get her running again soon. I like the looks of the Privateer.

I bought my Yamalube while I was there at $4.16 per quart. I stopped at Ed's marine on the way home - $8.99/qt. Why does Ed's charge so much?

Rocks,

Sorry to hear you are still having trouble with the boat.

I'll be looking to get the grady out sometime this weekend. If you are still in dry dock let me know.

Thanks Chesbay! Yamaha is covering the parts, but the last one needed (i hope) is back ordered. Some little flywheel sensor? coming out of California this week. So, i do not know if i will be on the water this weekend?

I felt a little guilty when i bought another boat for this summer. But I am glad i did, this repower saga has been since JUNE!!!!

I have told work, home, and whoever will listen when it is finally done I am gone.....
