Left carter's creek at 2 pm. It was a little rougher than anticipated, that put the kibosh on a run to the Cell. Caught a few dinks on the reef went looking for spot. Pretty slow at Bulters. Heard there was a bite at the Spike but not exactly sure of the location, pounded our way over to the Pianitank, nothing doing over there. Back to Butler's about 5 and the bite was on til we ran out of bloodworms. A nice whiting, a keeper trout (finally!) and blue added variety to the evening's menu. Only one other boat out there and both hooked up with monsters at the same time. With only 8 lb test ours finaly broke off while trying to haul anchor; the other boat boated a huge cownose shortly thereafter. Rode home to a fine fish fry.

Thanks Kevin, another buddy of mine did well with big spot off Butler's Hole last Friday in 25' of water. I've been fishing the river for over 10 years now, but have yet to figure out where the "Spike" is (momma always did say I wasn't the sharpest rock in the box). Can you tell me? Thanks.

I was in the area yesterday around 5 as well. Stopped at what my chart shows as Butlers and did nada around 3:30. Headed over between Broad creek and Stingray next to another boat and caught a few nice trout, very small croaker and spot and some unidentified fish. Whiting maybe? Don't know what one looks like. The fish I caught fought hard, had two small yellow fins and swallowed the hook.

I forgot most of my bottom tackle so we were improvising with what we had.

I was in a 23 Grady with twins and Hardtop fishing with my 8 year old. It was a little bouncy on the hook. We pulled up a little after 5 and surfed up river at 25 kts until it calmed down some past Mosquito point. Washed the salt of the boat, hauled out the Whaler in case of Ophelia and left for Mechanicsville around 8:30. Son was a little groggy this morning. [smile]

Looking forward to fall fishing.

Fished on Foot Loose, a 258 Grady, out of Carters Creek. It was a bouncy day. We brought in two nice size Spanish. Lost two in the surf. Also caught two blues. Slow Day, but had a good time. Saw the Grady with the two Evinrudes @ MP. Never tried to bottom fish, but we thought about it after a few waves over the bow. Glad you all caught fish.
