Anyone fishing the Rap around Tappahannock these days?
I was wondering if any stripers were up in the river. We caught some nice ones at the bridge this summer.

Last time I fished there was around a month ago at Bowlers bouy in front of Garretts Marina. We were bottom fishing and caught a lot of white perch, a few croakers, spot, catfish and eels. Back during the summer we caught a lot of nice croakers and catfish. At times we couldn't keep the eels off.

Thanks for the reply. Too bad you couldn't save those eels. They would make great striper baits.

You are right about the eels. One trip out back in July we caught 11 eels while fishing for croakers. They were all around 15 inches which is way too big from what I've ever heard anyone using to rock fish but I did learn later that cat fisherman use them, cutting them into 4 inch pieces for the blue cats. I've also heard that they are good to eat but I can't imagine trying to skin something that slimey. Maybe I'll re-think it next year if I get into them again.
