A career of only 6 short years! :)
Shot this 9 pter this past Firday night with a crossbow on a small property just north of Loch Raven.
Put a nice double lung shot on him and had him recovered 1/2 hour after shooting him.

He weighed about 200 lbs live weight.

I've now set the bar a little bit higher for myself for the future!

Good luck to everyone else this year.

Any idea what he might score? I took him to a taxidemist and should be able to find out sooner or later but just wanted some opinions. Thanks.

Best,
Jim

He has pretty good mass that will help but the extra tine will cause some deduction. My guess would be a 130 or 140. For Maryland irreguardless of the score, he is a really nice deer. Congratulations.

Very Nice Buck!!!! Looks almost like the twin to the 9 pointer that I shot a few weeks ago(my best bow kill), right down to the one broken brow tine....... I'm no expert, but I would guess he would score somewhere around 110 given the differences from side to side. Very nice Bow kill. Whats the inside spread?

I was messing around, and if you Google "150 class deer........125 class deer" the pics will give you a good idea of what your buck is.

Thanks for all the replies
Spoke to the taxidermist tonight and he is an official b&c scorer
for the state of Maryland.
His measurements of the inside of the rack is
17 3/4" and outside is 20"
He thinks he'll score in the 130's
Won't know for sure til he starts working on
the mount

An animal may not be officially scored until it has been at room temperature to dry for 60 days. That is a typical deer so the 9th point will be a deduction. I have many deer mounted and scored and that deer looks to be about 110-115. It is all about symmetry. None the less, it is a beautiful buck!........Gary

Score??? He won't be able to score any more because you shot him. He was most likely trying to score when he walked passed you following that doe. ;-) Just kidding. Good looking deer.

Very Nice Buck! What does getting a shoulder mount cost up that way? Around here, the guys worth using are all in the $500+ range. With the work involved I still don't know how they make a decent living but that puts taxidermy out of my reach this season.

My last buck two years ago was $525.00 done by North American Taxidermy in Rockville, MD. Mark has done many for me over the past 25 years and they all look like the day the were shot. I'm sure you can find cheaper BUT will they stand the test of time?.......Gary

Great buck I hunt private land around Lock Raven too. Since they opened up the park to hunting, its amazing that there are still bucks walking around like that.
