Fishing was good Wed. and Thurs and then with the storm on the coast, fishing went down hill the rest of the weekend, making fishing tough but a few nice cats did hookup with some club members.

My total for last week was: 35, 47, 50, 53 and a 57 lber. Another week or so and they should really be turning on.

Water temps were around 52-54 degrees but I hear it's gone up a couple of degrees in the last few days to around 56 degrees. All cats came from main river channel 30+ ft.. Look for action 30 minutes before slack tide and after slack tide. Just about all my fish came from that time frame. All on fresh cut bait, size didn't really matter, I caught some on smaller baits 1-1/2" wide to some on 4" wide baits. Center and secondary cuts produced the best, with only a few bites on heads that didn't result in any hookups. Some club members are catchin' some nice cats of butterfly-cut whole baits (medium cutters 1 to 1.25 lb) and also on suspended rigs. All mine are on Carolina rigs with leaders between 2 to 4 ft. in length.

I'll be out Saturday, Monday & Tuesday. Channel 68 on VHF.

I can't remember to tell you the truth...after awhile they all seem to just merge into just a bunch of cats until I catch a BIG hog....then I'll remember what size it was. I probably should have saved the image with the weight on it, which I use to do but quit doing that for some reason?

Bite has been up and down the last 4 days, I hear that the cats are not putting an aggressive bite on baits and bait size is becoming an issue....smaller baits do better it's been reported. During the day people have been experiencing "soft bites" even on big cats so working the rod when you detect line action might be needed to hookup with the cats. I usually don't mess with the rods until they slam-down and pull drag but with light bites, there's no slamming so you might have to work it. Cats are still in the main channel as of yesterday...work any structure or at the base of a drop off.
