How to connect a Northstar marine radio to a Lowrance HDS

Hi Pards,

Can any one tell he how to connect a North Star marine radio to my Lowrance HDS8 so I can use the emergency location feature?

I don't think any of the North Star radios are N2k. So, that leaves you with a 0183 connection. If you go to Lowrance's web site or look in the HDS manual there is an explanation of how to connect your radios via 183. You have to lay open the NS instruction and the HDS instruction and connect the output of the NS with the input of the HDS. I forget the colors, but its fairly straight forward.

On the Lowrance side Com1:

Yellow = transmit (TX)
Orange = recieve (RX)
Sheild = ground

I have no idea which wires on the Northstar, but connect the NS transmit (TX) to the Lowrance Orange, and NS recieve (RX) to Lowrance Yellow.
