Janda is a repeat, repeat, repeat offender. He has a DNR record a mile long. Time to put a stop to him.............Gary

An early start to this years "season".
58 counts x $1,000 = $58,000
2,273 x $1,500/fish = $3,409,500
Chances the maximum fine is assessed? They may have to sell the boat to help off-set the tab. That'd be a shame.

Seems like every year he makes the news for poaching charges against him.
He must be in with some very powerful people to keep getting off with minimal penalties.

Anyone have any idea how much money he makes from the illegal sale (price per pound)? I'm trying to understand why someone would risk so much to do this.
I gather that since the risk of severe prosecution has been low that the money has been worth the risk.

Up until the feds nailed some poachers recently, the risk of severe prosecution has been zero.

Court date is set for Feb. 17 th - in Talbot county.
Case really needs to be moved to Annapolis - not heard by a local judge.
Tough for a local judge to hand down a very stiff sentence.
What is really needed is for MSSA , CBF , CCA , etc to all demand these poachers be banned from the bay.
Where's all the outrage like was on pre season trolling ?

More likely he keeps going before a judge who just heard several cases that day concerning child abuse, assault with intent to maim, meth manufacturing, robbery, attempted carjacking, etc., and along comes a poor, pathetic good 'ol boy who just wants to make a living and killed a few more slimy fish than the law allows. Add to that an underpaid prosecutor who’s drowning in cases and has victims of other crimes beating down his door demanding justice.
The challenge is convincing judges (and prosecutors) that natural resources crimes are also very serious, albeit for different reasons.

Why would it be a shame? This man is stealing a natural resource so if he has too forfeit the means in which he is doing it then so be it. Would you let a bank robber keep his gun when he gets caught? If he keeps getting off with little to no repercussions were is the deterrent in the future? Greg

That's the sound of the clock ticking to the next moratorium. At this rate hopefully it comes sooner then later so there is something left to protect. Between stuff like this and netters working the schools over 10 miles off the coast it shouldn't be long.
Can't imagine why the the numbers of fish I'm seeing has taken such a hard downturn the last year or so.

AA County. Are you serious? Home of Rock Creek Sewage Treatmnet Plant. Home of Little Dobbins Island. Home of Annapolis. You want them tried there? Allegheny County is the place. Transportation to prison is only a cab fare.
In Allegheny County, a new prisoner is a new job. It's the home of 2 large facilities to house the Social Non-conformist. Is Tilghman an Indian word meaning, don't report your income? They still haven't received the word that they are now part of Maryland.

I know I personally saved (or at least didn't stress) 8 or 9 fish this spring so that this guy could fill his boat with poached rock.

oh yeah, and I'd love to see a Catch and Release only bay for a few years, moratorium would be a 2nd choice...

Baldy; A few years of only "educating" rockfish. Just think how "smart" they would be by 2012.

My thoughts are that a slot limit for stripers (such as those for snook and red fish) would be a good move, if applied all up and down their range not just MD.. It might save some of the big breeders. It has worked for other species.

Not laughing at you, Alley - everyone knows you are a sharp guy. Uno's post had me crying.
Sorry. Couldn't help myself. Not sure it's over! I'll try to refrain.
