I was reading some old posts last night about fishing for crappie off of the Dulaney Valley Road Bridge. Some folks said they started off w/ nightcrawlers but then switched to the tongue. What do they mean by that ? Beef tongue ? or is that slang for some other kind of strip bait ?
Also...what do folks normally use for crappie & perch fishing off the bridge (equipment / bait)
Any luck ?

I don't know what they mean about tongue, but I drive over that bridge everyday at 7:25am and and the last few days they have been reeling in fish. I couldn't tell if they were crappie or white perch though.

They are talking about cutting out the tongue of the crappie they are catching and using it as bait. From underneath, if you cut around the tongue and down the jaw, you end up with a v-shaped strip of meat, with the thick tongue the point of the v. Stick a hook through the tongue and it stays on a hook remarkable well, and the strip of meat that hang down create quite a life-like action, much like a split-tail grub.
Pretty old school. Used to do it years ago fishing for crappie in Minnesota but these days with all the incredible artificial baits, why go through the trouble?

I'm old school and never heard of this so guess you learn something new every day. Get to DV bridge now and then and curse it (used to fish off the old bridge before the rebuild) after all these years. Just drove over that today scouting Loch Raven and everything's iced up as expected.
