New to SWFL coast fishing. Going to be in the Cape Coral / Ft Myers area January & February as a snowbird from Virginia & Chesapeake Bay. Looking to join up with more experienced fishermen for occasional outings to share the fun, costs, and learn the techniques.

The Naples Pier should be every visiting seasonal fishermans first stop in the area that your visiting. I usualy spend most of a day there just sort of doing my homework. Its a pretty long pier with good clear water where you can see the fish and watch peoples jigs bouncing and see the fish hit. It will realy get you inspired if you like fishing. The pier will have 25 or so people fishing and lots of people just watching and walking. A handfull of the fisherman are locals and are there daily. They help the newbies and they know everything. They know what the charters are doing, where to go in the gulf, what baits, what times, what temperatures and weather, what leader, hook, cast technique, jigging technique, landing, filleting, cooking etc etc . This is where you will find the down and dirty hard core local people (meant to be a compliment) that know the local waters. You cant help but get invloved, even if your just watching your gonna sooner or later be helping somebody land a fish or unsnag a pelican or something. Very friendly, lots of action and it will give you a good idea of what is happening in the area. I have never fished there but for about $2 you can get a day license if your from out of state. Very inviting location. I think they even rent rods and I know they sell bait and hot-dog type food. Plus if you have a non fishing wife, the main street of Naples is like being in Beverly Hills. Clothing stores etc. Any woman would be happy to be let loose there and the pier is only 2 blocks away from Main St. I am trying to be near there in a couple weeks. Not sure yet but if it happens I will email you. I have a boat in Marco we can use.

Thank you for the reply Fishfarm. I'd about given up. I appreciate your suggestions. I've been getting a line in a few times but not with much satisfaction. I like your idea of the Naples pier. Been there but didn't consider joining in. Keep me in mind if you make it this way. Thanks

I should be in Marco for a few weeks coming up if anyone is interested in checking things out together in the next 3-4-5 weeks. Kinda getting a heads up for the good part of the season. No guarantees this time of the year, not even sure whats legal yet. plan on just scouting and trying to learn some good areas and techniques for the coming season. Just getting a heads up because I am a good fisherman and fun people who like to fish are never a hassle. Sometimes good company is better than a lot of fish. Let me know if you are going there or there often and I can plan it around you.
