dogwoods look like they are a couple of weeks out... Shad should be on their way. I have really been looking at all the silt around Fredericksburg last couple of days. I know the fish will be able to get by but i am not sure about some of my favorite spots i used to be able to boat to...
Fishing on the lower potomac on Thurs. give a shout if your out.

Folks use different things... robins, dogwoods, daffodils.
Me, I use spring peepers. Heard 'em for the first time Friday night... some friends had heard them Wed/Thu, but all agree this was the week.
There's even a fair chance we're done with all frosts when the peepers are this thick, but certainly no one should plant anything just yet.

There are already jellyfish in Meachims Creek on the Rapp, and they were thick! Still no Osprey yet. There were some baitfish in the creek though. I'm guessing Herring or Shad. Saw a Bald Eagle chase a Seagull and make it drop it's breakfast fish. Shouldn't be too long though before the Osprey and Croaker return.

Yup, it's here. Herring in the Chick, Shad at Richmond, Cherry Blossoms showing, heard the peepers loud and clear Friday night. Never realized what a wonderful sound they make. Looking forward to a Rapp trip soon even if I have to settle for some catfish pullage around the Tapp pilings.

Yep, it's great to see the signs of spring. On Mosquito Creek on the Rap, we saw the first ospreys on Saturday, March 11th, have heard the spring peepers for a few days now, and have heard the whoops of Tundra swans heading north.
So when can we expect to catch the first croakers of the new season?
Is anyone doing any C & R fishing for stripers around the mouth of the Rap?

I saw my first osprey of the year on March 5th. Have seen a half dozen since.
Have also seen fiddler crabs on the shore & first blue crab in one of my fish traps --- Ware River.
Also - bluebirds flitting around the birdhouse!

Ospreys showed up here (Deep Creek, off the Rapp) on the 11th, a week later than last year. Winter ducks are gone, groundhogs are out and about, and I'm itching to go fishing! Got the boat bottom painted, will wax it this week, then it's lookout fish! Even catfish will do-- need some pullage[grin]

Not at all! Shorts, tank tops (and bikinis) are every bit as relevant to fishing as are dogwoods and peepers.[smile]

fished all weekend on the great wicomico...not even a nibble. Two ospreys across from the dock were pullin little shiners out left and right. Wont be long. Temps this weekend will be chilly but my line will be casted regardless.
