We were there last year and it was a little dicey....just take it slow. Be careful at the public ramp there is a big chunk of concrete submerged there.

Ramp at Saluda(Oakes Landing) still hasn't been fixed either. The ramp is there and it is doable but a little shallow. The dock is gone however so bring your boots.
Rumor has it that the dock won't be replaced either due to new neighbors that didn't enjoy the colorful characters that enjoyed fishing there. I guess it's all in who you know.

I heard the same thing about the Saluda ramp ....sucks! There is a new ramp in Urbanna at Upton's Point that belongs to the town. Since it belongs to the town I am sure that there is a fee but it is very nice with deep water. Parking is good except for the height of the season....then it gets a little crowded. You could call the town office and ask or e-mail them.

Good luck!

The ramp in Urbanna is nice and it does cost ($6-8 I think) but there is no parking with a trailer. Trailers have to be taken off premise after launch.

What happen to the dock at Saluda? I have been using that ramp for years and it works great for me. I only have an 18 foot bowrider so bigger boats may have problems I am not aware of.

Sounds like something Urbanna would do. Great way to promote the town and business. We were going to stop and have dinner at one of the local resturants but remembered we could not park our SUV with the boat and trailer on town streets. I didn't know that applied to the marina as well.

I think the marina is mainly designed for town residents to launch their boats and then take their trailers back home. As for the general public they seem to park up in town or where ever else they can find out of the way.
Sound like a pain? Well welcome to Urbanna.

Locklies is a good place to launch and they have plenty of trailer parking, last I knew.

I watched as they installed the new breakwater and dreged to 6 feet from Wake landing out to the channel marker at Parrot Island. Can't imagine it getting shallow now, since the breakwater was out to the 4 foot level of undreged sand.

One point, the channel does not go straight to the channel marker. If you go straight you can get into shallow water (on your starboard).
Also, if you cut the corner and head for the Red channel marker near the mouth, you'll go over some seriously shallow water and lots of underwater stuff. And if you ignore the channel markers totally and just try to slip around the island, again there's some seriously shallow water you'll encounter.

I don't think that you are supposed to park in town with your trailer. It seems like I remember some town ordinance limiting trailer parking to 30 min. If enough people talk with their wallet (and let the town officials know) they may rethink their stand and provide some parking and other facilities.

Well it seems apologies are in order. I have been falsely spreading rumors regarding the dock at Saluda landing and it's status which has been pointed out to me as having been repaired last week(thanks KF4).
As for trailer parking in Urbanna this can now be avioded by using the free Saluda landing.
Then again in regard to the original thread it seems Wake landing is also open again.

I'll go along with Captain George that Locklies is a good place to go out of. They have two ramps, fuel, adequate parking, rest rooms, and a ships store with bait, tackle and snacks. If you catch a citation fish they can weigh it and submit your entry form. Locklies is a weigh in marina for the Northern Neck Anglers Club and has been the Home Port for several of the Club's tournaments. Dave

We must run in the same circles cause I heard the same thing you did about the Saluda ramp.

I use both ramps. The wake landing is used by grandfather all of the time he has 24' sport craft with i/o and get in and out okay. You do have to be careful but you should not have a problem. If it is low tide at wake you may have hard time getting a large boat of. Locklies is a good place I would recomend the ramp facing the river and the owner (his name escapes me Jack???) is very helpful about what is biting and where to go.

From Rt. 33, take Rt. 3 toward White Stone. Bear Right at Eckard's Resturant. It's at the end of the Rd. They have 2 ramps, one gets deep fast, one is more gradual.
