Went out with a newbe to our area yesterday to fish in the Potomac.
We pulled six lines, four off the side planners and two off the stern. They were from 60 to 120 feet back and from no weight to 12 ozs. We got 7 nice fish. I think only one was less than 30 inches. The two we kept were 33 1/2 and 36 1/2. We didn't measure the 5 we released but all but the one were close to or better than keeper size. We got at least four of them on a 6 inch arm umbrella rig with a Chart. 5 oz. hot lips Terminator and double hooked 9 inch Chart. shad. The rig had four 6 inch Chart. teaser shads on it. That rig was set 90 ft. back off the starboard side planer cable with a 6 1/2 oz. inline on it. My companion, Matt, bought it from R. W's Sport Shop two days before we went out. We caught them going down stream, up stream, across south to north and across north to south. It didn't seem to matter what depth we were in but most of them came in over 40 feet. We got them now and then all day long and tide didn't seem to matter either. All this was from between Buoy 9 and Buoy 7 down to close to Buoy 5.

Capt. Dave, nice report. If I didn't have to work I would have been right there with you.

Mushy, I tried to call you on the radio but got no answer so I figured you might be working. Later in the day I heard someone else call you and when you didn't answer that one I knew you had to be working.

It was a beautiful day out there besides getting some good fish.

Wish I could have been there. I'm hoping to give it a try on Sunday. I'm keeping the boat at Lewisetta Marina now, so if you're in the area please give me a shout on 68.

Nice report. I fish out of Yeocomico (Olverson's) and was thinking of running Sun to the Bay @ 65-68. Do you think it's worth it or would you stay in the river? I'll have my 12 year old daughter and two of her friends on board.... Wish me luck!

I went out of Smith Point Marina this morning in the fog. Took my wife, daughter and boyfried for our first try for trophy rocks. We trolled between 65 and 66. We went for 4 hours with only one knock down and no fish. I couldn't help but wonder if we had our spred all wrong. But just as the storm was coming into the bay, we had our deep rod go down, 16 oz man-o-war on a dazy chain with a 8 oz in line. 34" in the box. Before we got it on board, the mid way back went down, chart. umbrella. 36" in the box. Just before we got it to the back of the boat another rod went down, wfb rod, white umbrella. 37" in the box. Went from skunk to 3 in under 10 minutes. We were excited but with the storm coming we elected to head in. We were all smiles coming in. Hope to do it again next weekend.

thanks. I trolled near 7 today w/ about 20 other boats. Two fish between 10 AM --1 PM;
not a lot of action there, but most boats seemed to be getting one-two fish. Marks were very scattered. T-storms rolled in @ 1 PM. Will try some more over the next 2-3 weekends!

Went out of Buzzards Point late, like 8:00 AM and ran up to the Triangle below 65. It was beginning to fog up on us but we kept going and got a 36+ on a white 12 oz Mojo 3way rig with a 6 oz. inline. We went up past 65, actually almost ran smack into it in the fog. Then we started back south on the east side of the slough. No hits there. A large boat running at speed almost ran over us. I had to make a hard right so he wouldn't cut off our lines. We couldn't see more that 50 yards by then and this guy who seemed to have a radar just was going too fast for conditions. Too close for comfort.

We continued down to the Virginia line and pulled them in. Ran 6.5 K most of the way home until we were almost to the Great Wicomico Light when it cleared to blue bird conditions.
