I just got my boat this year and have it in a slip in Bush Creek. Could you experts point me in the right direction for some good fishing spots on the Rapp? I primarily will be bottom fishing (Spot, Craoker, Flounder).
Thanks,
Jimmy

You might want to consider joining the Northern Neck Anglers Club.We have Captains speak at most meetings on how and where to catch the various species. It is also very rewarding to discuss fishing with other fisherman who have specific knowledge on an area. You can contact Tom Smith, secretary at riverwatch2380@earthlink.net.The next meeting is May 13.

That sounds great. I will send him an email. Where is the meeting place and on what days? Cost?

Meetings rotate between the libraries in Heathsville and Kilmarnock.Tom Smith can send you the program for the year.Hope to see you on the Rivah and at a meeting.I fish the Roppahannock between Greenvale Creek and the Bay,be glad to tell you what little I know.Tom lives at Palmer and is a great source .

Not sure where Bush Creek is, but seems like this time of the year the Croaker bite starts up around Morratico, but that might be because Mr J's Pleasure fishes up that way ( and reports a lot - Thanks!) Misquito Point, Butler's Hole, are good spots as is the reef between there and Whitestone bridge. Just look for the boats.

Hi John! Good plug for the Club. One more thing that Jimmyz316 asked about is that the NNAC dues are only $25 per year. That entitles members to come to all the meetings, fish all of the tournament events where they might win valuable gift certificates, attend the Club picnics, and get discounts from a number of bait & tackle shops all free of charge. It's a heck of a bargain and you get to know some great people.

Hey Jimmy. Another option is to buy a map of the river from a tackle shop. A good map will have some of the good fishing spots shown on it. Then, continue to read the posts on here and you will be able to read where folks are catching the different species and look up the named fishing holes on the map. That's how I got started. These guys on here are full on knowledge and don't mind sharing it. Good luck.

Thanks guys for sharing your knowledge. I will definately check out the club. Unfortunately I will not be able to attend on the 13th. I have my family coming up to the river for my birthday that weekend. I want to show my dad a good time when I take him fishing. He was the one responsible for getting me hooked at an early age. He always had time to take me fishing so I want to return the favor especially now that I have a boat.

I'm assuming you really mean Meachum Creek where Bush Park is... If so, lots of fish on the north side of the river near the bridge, either side . Also, over near Cherry Point (the Pickle Factory) (east of the bridge where the large rusted tanks are)you can fish for croaker, spot and flounder. Farther to the east near the barge bouy are croaker.
Simply keep your eyes open for the charter captains.. Where they anchor up, is generally where the fish are.

Great spot. We caught 6 species there last year within the same hour.[smile]

The Towles pt. area (Buoy 6) is a good spot and also
the "Red Barn" area (across from Buoy 8).

Good croaker bite now out from Garret's Marina down to White Stone bridge. Spot should show up in May. I don't know where to find the flounder in the Rappahanock. If you find out let me know.
