Weekend Section that shows fishing reports is doomed because of "so-called" budget and space concerns..The editor used to be Gary Diamond and now is Angus Phillips. I loved reading his columns. We need to save his fish Lines report of the Weekend section. She claims there are more kids than fishermen but does not know lots of kids fish and like to read about fishing. That's how I learned as a kid and I am now 28 years old. But please help write to them and save the Washington Post Fish Lines Report.

Look at what I wrote in the reply section of this post. I will try to post her words also.

I really liked reading the Weekend's Fish Lines I have been reading it ever since Gary Diamond was covering that. I mean there is 3-5 pages about movies coming out...I mean entertainment tonight and other sources cover those types of issues..I mean people do want to know what's playing but my god 3-5 pages. I mean Fish Lines was like 1.5-2 pages and it was 6 months of the year. I even wanted to contribute info for Mr. Phillips. The Wash Times has Gene Mueller and he is in the sports section. Fishing is a sport just like baseball, football, soccer, or any other team sport. To take away the Fish Lines to me is like taking out the Metro Section. Mr. Phillips has done an excellent job providing the most accurate information available. I am shocked to even learn this online. I never knew until then....Why wasn't it published. At least I did not see it. As for Kids.....There a foundations dedicated just towards kids and fishing. The main problem with kids is that all they know are the streets. They don't know about the nature of fish and spawning and natural habitat and loss of thereof. If you take away the outdoors all they have is playstations and X-box's...Dickie Mussleman is a accomplished angler and Tournament Head of the Weekend Bass Anglers in Fredericksburg, VA. Every June a portion of the money they collect is used to promote fishing for youth.. I cannot believe that one of the largest newspaper circulations does not have space for a 1-2 page fishing report...even if it is general.. This is a smack in the face due to I love the articles of Mr. Phillips and other sections of the paper. If this is taken away...I won't even buy the newspaper. I will go to the Times. Please bring back the Fish Lines; it was the best way of planning the weekend of fishing for my little nephew, friend's kids, and just some buddies wanting to catch fish and have a good time. I hope I will get a letter in response to this. Even the Fredricksburg newspaper--The Free Lance Star has a fishing report covering the DC-MD-VA area. Let's not make that mistake. The Sports section every Thursday or Friday would do good.

Joyce Jones: Earlier this year, we decided to no longer carry Fishlines each week during fishing season. This was partly due to a space crunch and partly because there is no other hobby that we cover in that much depth each week. For instance, Fishing was getting as much space as our With Kids story each week. I know there are many people who fish, but there are a lot more kids. So, that said, we have gotten such heartfelt feedback on the lack of fishing info, that we are reconsidering. If you have particular things that you liked or disliked about the way we have traditionally covered fishng in fishlines, let us know. You can send a comment to this chat or to weekend@washpost.com. Thanks. Tell the Chesapeake Angler Guys too!!!

Best thing that ever happened!.... All the damn fishing report does is bring "outsiders"......I don't need the FR to tell me what's going on....the FR is there to tell "outsiders" what's going on!.
