Well, I don't know about the rest of you, but I can't wait for dem flatted thangs to show. I've gotten so I'd rather drive 5 hours to fish the VA ES for flounder than 2 hours to mess around with the trophy mayhem. First trip is April 8,9,10 to Chinco with many more trips planned to other areas of the ES. I know that some body in probably poking around out there right now to see if any fish are there, so it won't be long.

I'm with you Hillbilly Boater--I can't wait for the flatties and think I'll head to O.C. instead of participating in the Chesapeake's version of the Indy 500. Hope to catch some keepers this year...last year was real tough. Probably going to try the O.C. back bays near the 90 first. I would appreciate any thoughts on the where, what's, and how's. If you'd rather PM me, feel free. Hopefully this will be a better season.

Thanks!

Spent all weekend working on the boat, I will try to make it in the next few weeks. I have a little cabin in Quinby that we are getting ready to put siding on which will tie up another weekend. I want to start now but it will only get better.

FACT: I caught the flounder (Jack 4got 2 mention that) and it seems Phil isn't a very good netter as I watched it swim away...now my kids will starve. Sorry we couldn't get the tog 2 cooperate but we shouldn't have been out there as it was, water was too calm.

Andy and crew, if u guys r comin up make sure 2 confirm a head count as we'll be having crabs along w/the debauchery. I've got a grill if any 1 wants a burger AND brings them :).

The 2011 Flounder Fest Crab, Oyster Bash is up to 24 now.:eek2: I think Terp is starting to have second thoughts and wondering what he has gotten himself into. I think we are getting the logistics worked out, however, so it should be a good time.

I'm itching to get down to Wachapreague myself. I've been keeping my eye on the weather but for the most part it sux lately. I poured about 150 jigs for flounder fishing this season, hopefully enough to have fresh sharp hooks on each rig, new each day I go fishing.

I just love how much more aggressive flounder are while hitting a jig.

Hillbilly Boater
03-28-2011, 06:36 PM

Fishing a jig is the way to go, we had days last year where my wife and I had big numbers. You still need to catch a bunch to get keepers which is fine with me. I have been fishing bucktails for flounder for years and have it tuned in good, man the bite is awsome. I may try this weekend, I need to go down and open up the cabin for the season so I might as well fish.

Water Temps are 48 degrees up in the creek by the boat ramp in Wach. right now. That's warm enough to catch them, but I prefer at least 50 degrees. There is a nice east wind pushing clear water into the backbays too. The forecast looks crummy all the way through the weekend. Right now, Monday looks like it might be fishable........

OK Flounderfest folks, a new twist to the weekend. We will be having the 1st annual Terpheels Thanks For The Fun Flounder Tournament. Simple rules, largest flounder by inches, not weight, caught either Friday or Saturday. $5 per person for entry. Official measuring will be at the Crab Bash on Sat. Largest takes all. And yes Andy I said flounder. BTW, no fair going to Susan's Seafood and buying one. Must have whole in one piece flounder, no filleted pile of bones. Catchem up folks.

Guys, I sent B-Mails to the Guys I know will be there. If you have a MD. Fishing License...You need to sign up to Fish Virginia Waters!

What if I have a saltwater fishing license from Maryland? Virginia honors our licenses.

A. This gets a little tricky. Maryland is the only state with a reciprocity agreement with Virginia. We honor their fishing licenses and they honor ours. That said, licensed Marylanders who fish in Virginia will need to register with the Virginia Fisherman Identification Program. Here’s why: We need the contact information for everyone who fishes in Virginia waters. We can’t collect that information through Maryland’s fishing license system. There’s just no way to tell which Maryland license-holders will fish in Virginia. Conversely, Virginians should check with the Maryland Department of Natural Resources to determine if they need to register with Maryland in order to fish in Maryland waters with a valid Virginia saltwater fishing license. Here’s where to sign up for the Maryland Saltwater Angler Registry … http://mrc.virginia.gov/FIP/

Yall catch the all the big fish ya want, we are targeting the smaller fish, who wants a 26" door mats, not us, we are looking for those 9" napkins ! Put up or shut up, we are in ! 3 in our pirate crew ! We just launched the boat and it's blowin 20 easy now, hope it relents for tomorrow.

I'll bring the cooker, we expect free crabs and beer again this year for putting this whole thing on at Terps house! ;-)

Good three days for the Flounderfest. Enough fish to make it interesting in Wachapreague and enough keepers for dinner. Time to start hitting the seaside bays.

I fished green and drawing channels on Sunday for 4 hours, total fish for the boat = 1 -16" fish, and that was the only fish I saw caught out of at least 50 boats. I threw everything I had at them, jigs, minnows, chicken, bunker and herring strips etc etc etc.......I started fishing about two hours before high and ended 2 hours into the outgoing. WT was 53^ and the weather was beautiful.

Spent all weekend working on the boat, I will try to make it in the next few weeks. I have a little cabin in Quinby that we are getting ready to put siding on which will tie up another weekend. I want to start now but it will only get better.

My nephew fished last Monday, 6 fish with 3 keepers. I have a house for sale in Quinby.

new poster here...picked up my license , some silversides and squid yesterday...big storm went through last night...surf is outa control...off shore winds are still pretty strong, but starting to drop as of 10:00am...hopefully after lunch it will be a bit calmer...probably gonna hit the Queens boat ramp on the causeway...or even the spot by the bridge before the refuge...I wish I had gone on friday now!

not many boats out...everyone is waiting a bit it appears...too bad for the folks that made the long ride for early morn ...hopefully it gets pretty for them this afternoon...

fish are being caught last week...water temp is in low to mid fifties ...will post if lucky...
