You can try the ramps at the base of the Assateague bridge on 611. Plenty of parking room but alittle shallow in there. Another try would be a Fishtales on 25th St. deep water but tight parking. It's going to be crazy with the W OC ramp not scheduled to open until May.

Yep, its going to be crazy, one has to wonder when our government leaders, large and small, will ever get it right?, checked out the ramp at Bahia, It is too short, and the drop off would be a killer it your trlr went off the edge, seemed ok for smaller boats, the ramp at Bering rd, the ramp owned by the Town of OC looks adequate, Lots of controversy about it the past few years, neighbors complaints, and then the town got involved,,, another political snafu!,,

I think the only option is the Assateague ramp. Kind of a pain in the butt to drive all the way over there. Will that ramp be able to handle a 30' 10,000lb deep vee boat on a float on trailer? I am looking to trailer down there next weekend to do some fishing and not sure that ramp will work. Anyone??

I just found out, literally about 20 minutes ago, about the Commercial Harbor ramp being closed til May. Definitely sucks, exactly what kind of construction are they doing to have it down that long?

I'ts been almost 2 years since I used the Assateague ramps(23' CC). I do remember it was a low tide and I was stirring up quite a bit of mud getting away from the ramp into the main channel. Returned on the high tide with no problems. You might be pushing it with the 30' deep vee. I'd give a call to the National Park and see if they have any recent depth info for you. Not many other choices for you.

A few years ago we used to launch at a public ramp on Gum Point rd, just off of Rt 589 (Race Track Rd). Parking was limited but should be fine this time of year. We had no problems launching our 22ft Grady there.
Your best bet on a big boat is 87 st ramp . all the other ramps are subject to the tide . You can park trailers there so even it it a pain but its the best ramp we got for now ...

The ramp on Gum Point is probably okay for up to 24' - it's short. Biggest problem, as stated above is parking, 8-10 trailers MAX, and that's if everyone cooperates.

Must be a typo - you cannot park trailers at 87th. Used it Friday and it is clearly marked NO PARKING. I had trouble getting into it from the water and was almost aground. There are markers but hard to see from the water. Am looking forward to putting in there and recording a track out. Going to be a nightmare when it's busy as it will be considering the WOC ramps are closed.

Have found the end of that ramp at least 4 times with 14' and 17' boats. Wouldn't dare try it with my 23' now. MAYBE a 21' on a roller trailer...

Roger that, I have a 22 Grady and it gets interesting at anything other than near high tide. Got careless one time by myself and had to tug pretty good with my 2500 Dodge. Now I try and have the admiral stand on that little pier and bark orders at me - I think she likes that ...

Fish out of Chicoteague until the OC ramp gets re-opened. They should have thought about the potential loss of revenue in keeping those ramps closed during April and May. Go to the town hall, grab a launch permit for the town and launch at Curtis Merrit Harbor. You will have no problems. Smaller boats can launch at Captain Bobs marina. Plenty of good fishing, who knows you might find a new favorite hot spot.

I assumed the dates were due to weather restrictions pouring concrete? Would certainly have preferred Feb/March.
Would like to try Chincoteage area some this year but that is a ride and a half!

COUNTY AND CONTRACTOR CLAIM WEST OCEAN CITY RAMP RENOVATIONS ARE "STILL ON SCHEDULE"
April 8, 2011 - According to Ken Whited, Maintenance Supervisor for Worcester County Public Works, the renovation of the West Ocean City Public Boat Ramp is still on schedule to be completed by the original May 31, 2011 date. "We have faith in Hi-Tide Marine Construction to get the project completed on time." said Whited.
According to Denny Sharp of Hi-Tide Marine Construction, a company based out of Snow Hill, MD, the ramp basis has already been drained once and the company is waiting for some nice weather to drain the basin again and get the concrete poured. Whited said it takes 28 days for the concrete to cure.
The new, floating docks, which will solve the historical problem of excessive high tides rising over the current docks.
The challenge for anglers who trailer their boats will be where to launch for the opening of flounder season April 16th. Other boat launches in the area are located at:
Bahia Marina, between 21st and 22nd Streets in Ocean City
Gum Point Landing - located on Gumpoint Rd, .6 miles off Rt. 589
South Point - located at the end of South Point Rd off Rt. 611
Assateague State Park - located at Rt. 611 and the Verrazano Bridge
Caribbean Drive/Bering Road - located off 87th St. in Ocean City

Well it looks like the Pines ramp is the best bet for me. What is the best route from St. Martins river to inlet? Only have 30hrs boating the bay and most of that was spent in east channel near bridge and inside of 3 miles along the beach.
Looks like you hug shoreline to captains hill then have thorofare to east channel?

The other option is to go north to Delaware and launch at Indian River or Massey's. You need the State Permit - but it's good for a year. Chinco has a nice ramp at the Town Marina as well if south is your choice. Plenty of good fishing out of either of these inlets.

amazing - thanks for the info. I may put in at Indian River and run all the way down to go back up to South Bethany. Wonder if DE would let me launch one time for free?

Wow and i was just thinking maybe the Town would offer $$ to the state so residents don't have to pay to launch at Verrazano.
That is just ugly.

Indian River is only 20 miles north and is probably a quicker run by boat to some of the closer lumps than the southern spots. I know the ramp can support 30' boats as I have seen them go in and out of there all the time. It is a short run to the open water. The water at the inlet can be ferocious though. I have had some scary moments in my 36' boat when i came back in at the wrong tide. Trailer parking might be a small issue though, during tournaments and such.

Indian River requires an annual launch permit ($50 I think) and I believe you need to buy a DE license. Maybe someone can correct me.

Go here: http://www.chincoteague-va.gov/visitors/recreation
Probably gonna need a saltwater license, cause even if yer not fishing in VA, you'll be landing em in VA.

Stopped yesterday and talked to the contractor. He's working his ass off to make the Friday deadline. Let's wish him and his crew success!

I don't think Hi Tide owns a cement truck or plant so that part would've been sub'd regardless.
How are we getting around the earlier reported 28 day cure time for the concrete?
cross21114
05-23-2011, 06:47 PM
Don't know what curing or low strength problem there is. What I saw last Friday looked like pretty recently poured concrete.
Thoro Good was supplying concrete that day.
