Key West Report 3 May 11

Saw the post from Stubby (Cigar Stub) about sharing a charter in Key West. Lanie and I were in Key West the same time frame so we got together for a little inshore action in Key West. Fished with Capt Dave Campos on his 24 foot Pathfinder. Wind was blowing 20+ knots so we were limited in where we could fish.

Tried for tarpon along the edges of the channels and reefs. Saw some jump a few times but never could get one to take our live bait. Stubby hooked a nice fighting Jack Crevelle. Lanie caught a variety of bottom fish while I was trying for tarpon. She even landed a small gag grouper.

Moved over the flats to Dave's secret puppy drum hole. All the puppy drum we could crank but all were 15 to 17 1/2 inches, could not get them over 18 for dinner. I was not expecting puppy drum to be the wide open bite but it was certainly fun on light tackle. Had a few shark runs that broke us off. Moved to the mangroves and caught some mangrove snappers for dinner. Lanie cooked them up that night in our little efficiency apartment we rented.

Thanks to Jack (Stubby) for coordinating the fishing trip. Didn't land anything big but had a great day on light tackle. Here are a few pics of our day.

very nice, thinking about hot wiring the Seaduction and heading offshore this weekend for an overnight, might post for ho's tomorrow!!! Looks like some good eats there, when you coming back?
